It's a very beautiful historic point of interest located in the heart of midtown. When I went most recently, it was free and open to everyone, but that was because they were undergoing some major construction so the park wasn't really bursting with life. I remember going here as a kid however and witnessing a reenactment of pioneer life. It's an experience I'll never forget and it taught me about where my people come from. If you're interested in learning some colonial history then there really is no better place to go.
Great historical site! I hope California continues to fund these important pieces of our American Culture and history. I went while under renovation though I’ve been numerous times as a Sacramentan I’ve been here multiple times as a child. Sad to see the statue removed from across the street but still happy to see all the work being done to preserve. Also free during construction!
3/4 of the exhibit is closed for remodeling. We got in for free that day we still have them $20 and still had a wonderful time! Still plenty to see with only a quarter of the fort open! Go!
I was there to acknowledge the Elders and tribes gathered as one … Miwok Miwuk Wintu Maidu Nissenen I love the turkey tail regalia which I chose not to record. OH For my #Phillipino Matrich from CeBu Phillipines I thank you for your life I stand with these Tribes of Northern California as the regain sovereignty through acknowledging colonialism s devastating effects in California Tribes pre gold rush. Ohh My daughter & grandson is Chickasaw !
It was free to get in. Historical place to learn about Mr.Sutter. Interesting for anyone wanting to learn and see old historical artifacts. Great for kids. Restrooms: Be careful Picnic area: Not suggested
Beautiful landmark. At the moment half of Sutters Fort is being renovated so today I got in Free.
Parts of the fort were under construction, so admission was free. We were still able to see several of the indoor rooms, as well as the central original building. Fun and educational, as always!
Went here not know what to expect, we just wanted to go to a museum and experience some local history. Lots of good exhibits, and the stories were well balanced, they told the good and the bad about the fort and its founder. Can't remember his name, but the guy who was stationed in the area by the doctor's quarters really made our visit! He opened up the locked rooms and taught us so much that we wouldn't have know without him. This place is definitely worth your time and money.
This is a really great local piece of western American history. It's also great for local Sacramento history, but the significance really is to people who migrated out here due to gold and settling in the valley. What's interesting is that only the center building is original to Sutter's Fort. However, the rest of it had to be reconstructed and is almost 140 years old itself. So it's all quite old. Old. But the middle building is the only original structure left. There is a small gift shop and restrooms and drinking fountains throughout. Street parking only. I was able to park for less than $4 for 2 hours so that is very reasonable. Also, don't forget to check out the state Indian museum which is right next to it. Prices are the same. If you pay for one you don't get in free to the other one. State Indian museum also has a small gift shop as well. However no photos are allowed inside the state indian museum
If you love history this is a great stop! It's a self guided tour, but there are helpful staff to answer questions, even if it's a strange question! We noticed all the trim was painted green. When we asked the staff if this was period accurate, they informed us it is an educated guess based solely off one record found of John Sutter purchasing large quantities of green paint! Another interesting fact we learned, while the flag flying above the fort is an example of today's Italian flag, it is actually the field version of the Mexican flag its missing the emblem in the white field
