It's not the staff, but the way this office operates makes it very difficult to 1. get to someone to speak to it takes about 2 min to just get through listening to the preliminary message and this is required to proceed. and 2. when someone is reached, receive call backs and satisfactory response to one's needs. If my father were not as old as he is, we would definitely be pursuing a different medical practice.
Doctor is fantastic however, trying to get ahold of someone is difficult and then trying to get an appointment with the pcp is a ridiculous wait - booked weeks out. Last time I was told to go to urgent care by Laurie the nurse and found out after sitting at urgent care for an hour that they should have never sent me there because they don't do blood work or what I needed to have done. Urgent Care said they have expressed this to the PCPs offices as well So then its a game of going back and forth. I am a medical assistant and the care that I have received by the nurse and lack of contact is not acceptable.
DO NOT RELY ON THIS OFFICE FOR PRESCRIPTION NEEDS. I have a rescue inhaler that was prescribed to me by a doctor no longer at this office, they need me to come back in to the office to I guess confirm once again that I still need the inhaler. My problem is they are refusing to refill my prescription right now. This is an inhaler I use when I feel like I CANNOT BREATHE. I offered the nurse on the phone a compromise even, stating that if they can refill the inhaler for me today I will make an appointment to come in and waste my time and money for them to tell me what I already know. Apparently that didn't work for her. This is not an office that displays compassionate care for it's patients, I truly do not understand why my inhaler could not be refilled for me today if I was willing make an appointment on the spot with the nurse on the phone. Now I will have to go waste someone's time at an urgent care so I can ensure I have the necessary meds to BREATHE. I'm not asking them for hydros or xanax, I am just begging for an inhaler to be able to breathe freely.
They have gone down hill since they came under the NM umbrella. I can’t get a hold of my doctor anymore because he’s booked out for three months. If I try to call and talk to a nurse or someone I am on hold for 30 minutes before the receptionist picks up the phone that is not even part of their office, just part of the NM umbrella. I feel they don’t provide quality patient care anymore, you are part of the NM SYSTEM that only sees you as another number. 30 years of going here and I’m searching for a new doctor office outside of Northwest Medicine
I have been going to this office for 23 years and ever since it switched over to Northwestern Medicine the quality of care has decreased significantly. There is a clear disconnect between the healthcare providers and the people who answer the phones. I also don’t see the point in having a MyChart messaging feature if your messages never get answered and you have to call to get any information. I have been trying to get a prescription that I have been on for years refilled for 9 days and not a single person can connect me to a doctor/nurse/PA or tell me why I can’t get a refill. I’ve called numerous times and each time the call center person gives me a different reason or story. I have never encountered a more unhelpful team of people. That’s just the start of it but in all honesty, if you are looking for a reliable, caring, helpful primary care office I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
I have been a patient here all my life 30 years. The doctor that I had most of my life retired about 2-3 years ago and ever since he retired the experience has been horrible. The doctor who took the place of my old doctor is 5 stars, but the nurses are who get the 1 star. The recent visit I had the nurse couldn't even take my blood pressure correctly. It took 4 attempts for her to get it, meanwhile she had to go look for a tethescope and she told me she is never on that side of the building. In my head, that is not important info to share with a patient. Doing blood pressure correctly is important and she couldn't do it. After my visit I was prescribed 2 antibiotics which both caused a lot of side effects to me. I then had to message my doctor to let him know and to see if there was a different antibiotic I could use with less potential side effects. The nurse who called me regarding my symptoms was barely helpful. My doctor finally prescribed a new antibiotic which helped, but when I reached out about a week and a half after seeing him to see if another round is needed, his nurse messed up my prescription and told me where it was sent to, but I checked and there was no record of the medicine for me. A couple days later I messaged again since my symptoms were not improving. I had to say in the message how frustrated I am because I should be feeling better by now and what pharmacy to send to. It was shortly after that when I finally seemed important to the nurses to get my script refilled. It has been 2 and a half weeks with Diverticulitis infection and I should be better now. Yet, I am only on day 3 of my next round of a 5 day antibiotic. Miss the old days when Karen was my doctors nurse. Shes easily above a 5 star nurse. She actually takes the time to get to know patients. Occasionally when I see her before my doc, it is like we just saw each other yesterday and not a lot of time has passed. Miss the old days when it was 5/5 stars. I work in healthcare and understand how busy treating patients can get, but they come to you seeking help and you have to provide great care or else people will walk away and find somewhere else to go.
I have been with this group for about 9 years and it has continually gotten worse. So today I am leaving this group. They have so many patients that if you get sick , you have to wait 3 months to see your doctor. I have never seen a group go down hill like this. I definitely would never recommend this group to anyone. Hope that you remember people like us pay your salary. If by chance you do get in you are in no more than 15 min. so you better have any questions you want answered written down. Such horrible health care doctors. Hope you wake up and take you job more seriously.
medical staff is wonderful and kind. but the office staff/whatever computer programs they use is horrible. i scheduled an appointment over a month ago and 30 minutes before my appointment time i called the office to ask if i would have a copay to deal with when i got there. i was told that my appointment had been canceled by the automated call made to confirm the appointment. long story short, their system had a malfunction and i had to reschedule my appointment for another time because of the mistake they had made. because someone else had taken the appointment time. i have to rearrange my schedule because of them. im very disappointed because the insolence of the office staff takes away from the actual satisfaction with the office as a whole even though the medical staff is phenomenal
Doctors are great if you are ever able to get an appt. Nurses are 90% great. 10% terrible. Never attempt to call and be treated as anything more than an inconvenience. Calling in a regular prescription request is a horrific experience. I was also told that my request to please have a doctor call me back would not happen but a nurse would. They never called back. This was the first time I had requested to speak with my physician via phone in many years. The staff is horrible and unfortunately still there. I will be finding a new doc. Run don't walk away from this practice.
I have been a patient of Fox Valley Family Physicians for years. The last 4 years have been a nightmare. Just went to get my fasting blood work done off site and once again they never bothered to fax over the paperwork. At least they are consistent. This has happened the last 4 years. I am completely disgusted and will be switching to a new doctor immediately.
