Francis Field

Description

Francis Field is a stadium at Washington University in St. Louis that was used as the main stadium for the 1904 Summer Olympics. It is currently used by the university's track and field, cross country, football, and soccer teams. It is located in St. Louis County, Missouri on the far western edge of the university's Danforth Campus. Built in time for the 1904 World's Fair, the stadium once had a 19,000 person seating capacity, but stadium renovations in 1984 reduced the capacity to 4,000 persons. It is one of the oldest sports venues west of the Mississippi River that is still in use. Francis Field now utilizes artificial Field Turf, which can be configured for both soccer and football.

Such an incredible little piece of history! The stadium was one of the 1904 Olympics venues, located on WashU’s gorgeous campus. Worth stopping to read the plaques and snap a pic by the Olympic Rings!
I enjoyed the soccer game and noticed the great facilities on campus. Glad we went.
I came for my brother's graduation, so it wasn't for the more typical occasion I suppose most people would come here for sporting events, but it was still great! Very clean, big, and in a safe area.
Top of the line facility, well, the track and field that is, anyway. But the old style bleachers are great for running stairs. Open to use by the public. Wash U students are always respectful. Practicing sports teams don't mind if you use the track or stairs while they are using the field.
Enjoyed the game and we were treated very well.
Quaint old field that cant be modernized due to its historic status. Still an ok place to watch a ball game. The only issues are stands only on the home team side and only one entrance area. At least they lwt them modernize the field and track for the athletes sake.
Fun to drive by, but not much of a reason to stop. Little evidence the Olympics ever happened here, but cool nonetheless.
Brand new turf and a nice track make this a nice spot. The stadium itself is a protected landmark honoring the 1904 Olympics and the seating is a little dilapidated
This is a huge Park with multiple open playing fields and a softball/baseball field. It is hidden away behind Steger Middle School. It is easier to park on the hidden far side.
It gets three stars for history. The site of the 1904 Worlds Fair and 1904 Olympics. It's not very impressive by most major college standards to say nothing about D1.
