Franklin definitely deserves 7 stars but with Google Map’s limited thinking, I can only put 5 stars. Absolutely the best bbq I had in Austin! Will recommend to line up at least an hour before they open. I got there on a Wednesday at 10:45am and had to line up at the edge of their parking lot. Wait time to get food was 1.5 hours. Briskets with half lean and fat and ribs were killer items. I personally found the sausage pretty mediocre. The pickles were not special at all. Wished they give out freshly baked sourdough bread instead of wonder breads. They offer 4 sauces and all were good match to the food. Definitely will revisit in future trips.
I arrived at 10am to do the line. I was seated with my food at 230pm. Probably the brisket that I have had in my life. I didn’t get the ribs because the group before me took the last ones. Amazing food, nice atmosphere and people watching- specially those who give up after 2 hours or 3… But I take 1 star off for service. I think they could have 2-3 serving lines and save their customers the suffering of waiting 4.5 hours for food. I will not go back again, but it was a one in a lifetime experience. Parking: Parking is limited and it becomes risky as the line goes around the parking lot; and some drivers are not the best at parking or pulling from a tight parking spot. Kid-friendliness: I would not make my children wait 4.5 hours for bbq. I saw parents struggling trying to keep their kids entertained.
Fabulous! It lived up to the hype and price. They have an espresso barbecue sauce that is absolutely AMAZING! Sadly, they don't sell it in bottles. Order ahead! It would be worth the wait as well, but why wait when you can order ahead.Food: 5/5
Bucket list item complete! I came here knowing about the long wait. When you are in line you get to socialize with people. I met a couple from another part of Texas and it was their first time here too. I got here at 11:45 on Thursday and the wait was about 2 hours. And they did have someone that went to each person/group asking how many pounds you think you are going to order of each item so they can estimate when they will sell out. That is very nice so that if you are going for a particular food you know if you are going to be able to get what you want without waiting the long time and finding out at the end if something is not available. The staff were all very friendly and social. They made this a great experience. I got the brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs and slaw. The brisket is worth the wait!!! The best brisket I have ever had!!! The pulled pork was great. The ribs, they were good but I would not get them again. Instead I would get more brisket. The brisket was awesome! I would definitely stand in line and wait again for the brisket! Did I mention how great the brisket is?
This place was pretty great. We arrived at 12:30 and ate at 1:30. When we arrived Hanna “the bouncer” said that there might not be many selections but we got everything we wanted. The Brisket, burnt ends, and pulled pork were all fantastic. The sausage wasn’t the best both flavors had hard rubbery casings and finely ground meat. I would go back. By 2:00 people were walking in the door and not having to wait in line.
Great experience. I got in line and literally Was Last Man Served . Thats where the sign in the Picture comes from , she asked me to hold this . They also out to give updates on availability. Famous for Brisket which was melt in your mouth tender & tasty. Ribs & chopped beef was delicious. Unfortunately they were out of dessert pies . But at least I got in the door . She told us that someone showed up in line at 4am.
The reviews mirrored my experience. Got in line at 1030am. By 1045 someone came out and explained that washrooms are open and people can come grab drinks while they wait. Told my section of line we were looking at 2.5 hr wait and just turkey might get low by the time we get there. Brought a book so was prepared but people in line very chatty and friendly. If a "good line" exists this is the closest thing to it. About 1115am when another employee came by asking about your planned order to help keep people informed and keep tabs on stock. Exactly 2.5 hrs later got to front and had a moment with a very friendly cutter. Just like they predicted, turkey was just 86'd so went with a Lbs of brisket and a sausage. Went with take out cuz 2+ hrs in Texas heat had me wanting my AC hotel room for lunch. Everything is packed in paper but they threw in all the fixens and we could takeout out a couple ramekins of BBQ sauce. Great experience all around. The staff have this down to a science and really felt like they respected my time, knowing we were all gonna wait hours for BBQ.
We got here at approximately 1pm and there was a line in front of us. Took us about 1 hour to sit down and eat. The nice part is someone comes out to give updates on what is left. So if you want or try out different things, don’t come at 2pm as they may run out. Surely recommend ribs amazing!, pulled pork and brisket. The jalapeno cheddar sausage was nice, but too much food, so we ended up just tasting it. The slaw was also nice.
Hands down the best brisket in the world. Every piece was extremely tender and glistening with juicy tallow goodness. We arrived at 0800 and were 17th in line. The atmosphere and employees were all very nice and extremely welcoming, even got to meet Franklin and he signed his book for me. I ordered a little bit of everything but next time I will skip the turkey, pulled pork, and sausage.
I couldn't be within an hour of this place and not go. I would have to turn in my foodie card. I did not do the wait in line thing. We pre-ordered everything a month in advance, and it was exceptional, but by preorder, you can't get the beef ribs during the weekend. gotta stand in line for that. The food was awesome, and the sleeping cat that woke up as soon as we opened up that bbq came out of nowhere to get some, and how could I not share ... I was mad about it because I wanted it all to myself. The staff was awesome, and the food was killer. A lot of love and care seemed to have gone into everything. I am so blessed to have been able to enjoy food that I have watched in videos for years. This was a great day for me. Thanks to the Franklin bbq team for taking such great care of us. Thanks, Aaron Franklin, for sharing your knowledge and love for bbq. I have watched and put your techniques into practice, and it has made me a better cook and a better person. Thanks for reading this, you have been great. I have been Mike C!!
