Freeport VFD is a 100% volunteer department that has been proudly providing fire and rescue services to the Borough of Freeport and its surrounding communities since 1916. The services we provide include, but is not limited to: fire prevention, fire suppression, rope rescue, water rescue, vehicle rescue, pumping details, pre-planning, traffic control and support to Freeport EMS. We serve our community with two fully equipped engines, a light rescue truck, and a squad. We also have our own fire police which responds to incidents to help with traffic control.
Originally started in 1936 with one ambulance, Freeport EMS was an all-volunteer service. Almost 80 years later, Freeport EMS is a combination career/volunteer Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Service provider with 3 fully equipped, state-of-the-art ambulances. We staff at least one ALS ambulance 24/7 with career Paramedics and EMT's, with additional personnel on staff during busier shifts. It is not uncommon during weekday daylight hours to have three crews staffed, and two crews staffed on evening and weekend shifts. We also have volunteer staff who supplement the career staff when needed. Freeport EMS is the only EMS provider for Freeport Borough and South Buffalo Township. Along with Saxonburg Ambulance, we provide the ONLY EMS service to Buffalo Township and Winfield Township. We have mutual aide agreements with our surrounding services to provide back-up when needed. We have medical command through Allegheny Health Network, Allegheny-Kiski Medical Center located in Natrona Heights, PA. We provide medical coverage for Freeport High School football games, Freeport Youth Football games, and numerous other events held in and around the Borough.
