My experience today was less than satisfactory based on the fact that management was very inconsiderate in regards to not trying to have the noise levels appropriate for a learning capabilities. There was a crying child and no one offered to have them sit in a location where they can be cared for in privately. It was also quite a disturbance for not only myself, but others I’m sure. The staff was less than able to handle the noise levels and need to be considered for re-training on ethics and morale if possible. Thank You, Veronica Martinez
Great for a used book store. It is used to help the Fresno County Library with is programs by helping the volunteers of the Friends of the Fresno County Public Library. As more time is added, right now there are not enough days. The books change quickly and the only way to know what they got is by stopping in. There are good choices one weekend, the next weekend it may be not so great. The books are donated, so you never know what you get. You have to stop by to see what is happening.
such a shame! I used to love this library where do I start! they literally took out all of the outlets so nobody is able to use them I guess. I use a laptop but I can't plug it in to do whatever I need to, makes no sense. I am a student! I understand there is alot of homeless people who come here but if they are so anti homeless they might as well require a dress code to enter or some kind of at-the-door approval. They don’t want certain people loitering, sitting around using the outlets, using the internet all day. They might as well take away the WiFi! It just doesn't seem very welcoming for people who are actually trying get stuff done. Do better, come on.
I went came to this location because I just love the downtown area! It was so nice and easy to park right out front don't forget change or a card to pay for metered parking. I was helped right away by a very friendly gentleman. He helped me renew my card, navigate the computer system, and provided super helpful information about requesting/returning books. He did not hesitate to request a book I needed from another location and explained the whole process perfectly. I will definitely be back for my future book searching/browsing needs!
Cool library, but there’s a very bitter, small elderly person named Ronald Martin that’s a retired Fresno library assistant that shows up to Fresno State Conley Art Gallery receptions and harasses students and says rude things to them. For this reason, my female friend will no longer go to the gallery. It is a shame that students who have worked through their whole college degree have to endure harassment from people like him.
Very small. Lots and lots of homeless people gather here, inside and out
This place needs to be disinfected it's hot people coming in and out. They wonder why more and more people are getting sick. This is a place toget homework and other necessary things you can't get at home or have computers to do them on.
This library has seen better days. Most of the people within its walls on any working day are homeless folks seeking air conditioning, a handy restroom & computer use. The staff do a tremendous job with dwindling resources & an often crumbling infrastructure. They also have to work in a dangerous environment as the customers are frequently mentally disturbed, quite literally hostile to the notion of following any rules & pumped up on booze or drugs. There is a security guard here throughout the operating hours & he is endlessly calm & patient during long days which invariably throw violence & vicious verbal abuse in his direction. Some of the reviews here echo that very trend - yet I have seen this decent man demonstrate compassion & kindness in abundance in spite of the no-win nature of his job. The entire building is worn out & dirty. Most of the books have been discarded. The Reference Section is bare. Comic books seem to be given a higher priority than the kind of literature one expects in even a basic library. The place smells like a garbage truck & it must be hell for the people who have to work here. At least the mental hospitals which this library most resembles do require the inmates to take a bath now & then. This branch used to provide free parking. That was taken away & the inflated cost of metered parking in the vicinity has driven away real customers - placing the library even more in the category of vagrant hangout space. Downtown Fresno was already an unattractive place to explore before the parking changes; as the risk of being mugged by meth addicts is no longer offset by convenient parking, why bother using the library here?
The staff were really nice. They helped me get a new library card, and even have a child's room so we can do unsupervised visits there.
Very large selection of books, documents, and records. Over 20 computers available to use. Printing, copying, and scanning available for 10¢ to 60¢ per page. Staff are very friendly and helpful. A library card here gives you access to libraries across several counties and online library services. Download the Libby app and get access to hundreds of audiobooks for free. Definitely an important and valued resource for Fresno.
