Davis Islands Dog Parks were adopted by "Friends" through Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful!
We are a new group seeking volunteers for clean-ups, and donations to help maintain and make improvements to the park.
ABOUT THE PARKS:
Davis Islands Dog Parks are located at 1002 Severn Ave on beautiful Davis Islands.The parks are two seperate fenced in areas located at the South end of the Island, past the Peter o. Knight airport. The dry dog park is approximately 1 acre. The dog beach is 1 1/2 acres with more than 200 feet of waterfront access.
The Forming of "Friends of Davis Islands Dog Parks:
In February 2013, two local Davis Islands businesses owners and residents Carolyn Bigley (Davis Islands Pet Care www.DIdogs.com) and Jennifer Fadal (Wag of Tampa www.wagoftampa.com ) partnered together to adopt Davis Islands Dog Parks, through Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, with the intension of assisting Tampa Parks and Recreation in maintaining and improving both Davis Islands Dog Beach and Davis Islands Dog Park. Realizing that this will be a on-going and long-term community effort, they decided to form "Friends of Davis Islands Dog Parks.org", a non-profit organization, in partnership with Friends of Tampa Parks and Recreation. It is their hopes that other local businesses and residents will join and help support park improvements, and encourage park users to volunteer and be mindful in keeping the dog parks clean and safe .
Beginning in March 2013, dog owners that enjoy Davis Islands Dog Parks will be noticing some changes. Tampa Parks and Recreation will begin repairs on fences and removal of hazardous materials in the parks, as well as making other park improvements.
Volunteer groups will be out cleaning the parks of pets wastes (which should be the job of all dog owners) and other litter that may wash up at dog beach. The two kiosks, (community boards at entrances of both parks) will be repaired by volunteers and maintained by members of "Friends of Davis Islands Dog Parks" with permission by the Tampa Parks and Recreation Dept., in order to keep the boards both informational and clutter-free.
Friends of Davis Islands Dog Parks is a newly forming, community based, non-profit organization, dedicated to the preservation and improvement of Davis Islands Dog Beach and Dog Park. Our goal is to represent the people who frequently use the dog parks and to work in unison with Tampa Parks and Recreation to maintain the parks, making it safe and enjoyable for all dogs and owners.
Our Mission:
1. To raise funds and encourage volunteerism to help create, maintain and improve our wonderful, off-leash, waterfront dog parks.
2. To Enforce Park Etiquette: (See List Below)
3. To promote responsible pet ownership and environmental protection through education, community outreach, and special events.
4. To keep community boards up to date, informational, and clutter free; priority being to benefiting dog park initiatives, pet related non-profit organizations,and lost and found pets.
PARK ETIQUETTE:
* Clean-up after your dog, especially at dog beach. No excuses!
*Have an eye on your dog at all times.
*No food allowed in the park. May cause food aggression in dogs.
*Keep your dog on leash until inside gated areas.
*Have your dog under voice control, or on a leash.
*DO NOT bring aggressive dogs to the park. Be courteous to others and remove your dog from park if it is showing unfriendly behavior.
*Have your dogs up-to-date on vaccines
*Make sure your dog doesn't have fleas before coming to the parks
*If your female dog is ''in heat'', please don't bring to the park
*Watch unaltered males closely, as they can cause aggressive play and dominance aggression when in groups of dogs.(We strongly suggest having your pets spayed or neutered)
*Children need to be supervised at all times.
