Friends of Miami Marine Stadium

Description

Friends of Miami Marine Stadium was organized in February 2008 to seek restoration of the Miami Marine Stadium.

The all volunteer group was organized under the administrative umbrella of Dade Heritage Trust, Miami Dade County’s foremost organization devoted to historic preservation. In January, 2011, Friends of Marine Stadium incorporated as an independent organization and in August, 2011, received approval as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

Some of the accomplishments of the Friends of Miami Marine Stadium are:

-Historic Designation of the Marine Stadium and Basin by the City of Miami Historic and Environmental Preservation Board in October, 2008

-Advocacy efforts which have resulted in support from groups such as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, singer Jimmy Buffett, and the World Monuments Fund

-Approval of the Master Plan for Virginia Key by the Miami City Commission in Jury, 2010. The plan makes the Stadium the centerpiece the restoration for Virginia Key.

-A publicity campaign which has resulted in local, national, and international press.

-An Engineering Study funded by a collection of organizations headed up by the World Monuments Fund which demonstrated that the cost of restoring the concrete in the Stadium was estimated between $5.5-$8.5 million, depending upon how much work would be done to arrest additional deterioration. This amount is much less than the $15 million as previously estimated by the City of Miami. (It is important to note that this estimate includes concrete work of the structure only, and not work on the pilings or other facets such as plumbing, electrical, new seats, ADA handicapped requirements, etc).

-Extensive community outreach including presentations to over 32 business organizations, yacht clubs, civic and community organizations.

-Events to educate the public including a seminar entitled “The Future of Miami Marine Stadium” which featured 15 promoters and events organizations who would like to use the facility.

With the advocacy battle won, Friends of Marine Stadium is now focusing on feasibility issues which includes management, financing for the Stadium, and operations. The Friends group seeks to make sure that the Stadium is both economically viable and is operated in the public interest. All of the work to date has been done by volunteers.

Soflo boat show was excellent the best manufacturers of boat in south florida CARRERA POWERBOAT had the best setup best priced boats and amazing construction look them up tell them alex sent you
Cool old building, but it's in a very busy area, and there's some security guard there following people around, harassing them, and claiming they're not allowed to take pictures of the outside of the building
We recently attended the Soflo Boat Show held at the Miami Marine Stadium location, and we had a fantastic experience. We wanted to take a moment to leave a review and express our appreciation for the event and the beautiful Key Biscayne area. The boat show was incredibly well-organized, with a wide variety of boats on display that catered to different interests and preferences. The venue itself, Miami Marine Stadium, provided a stunning backdrop with its scenic views and coastal charm. Not only did we enjoy the boats and the atmosphere, but we were also thrilled by the great food options available at the show. It was the perfect combination of leisure and business, allowing attendees to explore the latest marine products while indulging in delicious culinary delights. As exhibitors showcasing our Nomad Dive System, we were pleased to receive a significant amount of interest in our product. The Miami waters are an ideal setting for our battery-powered dive system, and the diving enthusiasts in South Florida showed genuine enthusiasm and curiosity. Lastly, we must mention the remarkable diving opportunities in South Florida. The region boasts breathtaking underwater landscapes and diverse marine life, making it a true paradise for divers. The Nomad Dive System perfectly complements the vibrant diving scene in Miami and the surrounding areas. Overall, we would like to extend our gratitude to the organizers of the Soflo Boat Show, creating such a memorable event. It was a pleasure to be a part of it, and we look forward to future opportunities to showcase our product in this remarkable setting.
These are pics I took when I went to a baseball game at Loan Depot Park.
Excellent!! Went to see a magic Mike event and assumed parking would be difficult because of the location. But it's a pop up venue and EXTREMELY easy to locate no matter what you're going there for.
I think back in the day it would be a wonderful place to have visited and see it in its prime. From the structure alone, it is decrepit and the art work is disappointing. I watched a documentary years ago where they allowed artists to go in and beautify it, but as much as I love street art and graffiti, it was ugly. Mind you, this area is closed off and guarded by a mall cop that does nothing but keep the gate open for anyone that wants to walks in. I would advise to be cautious around this area and will say that the views could be spectacular from the right spot.
We love Jared! Stadium is really cool, but definitely unsafe to walk around in some places. Also, they have motion sensors that WILL go off and alert security - so be advised.
The Miami Marine Stadium. Wow! I am not sure I'd been there in the last forty years. Please press Like if you enjoy the essay. This is almost a haunted mansion! It has been abandoned for a very long time. From what I understand it is considered a historic place or something. Graffiti is awesome! And the parking lot -- oh my it is gigantic! And free! I'm not sure if you are allowed to park a car here and bike around the island, but that would be a consideration. On the other hand, there were not many cars in the area, so leaving a car here alone with very few passersby might lend itself to having a car stolen or broken into. There is a gated area to the far end of the parking lot with small boats and rowing equipment. I'm not sure what that gated area is called. It also has what appears to be an Olympic sized pool. There isn't much to do at this place, other than marvel that a gigantic area of town remains vacant. That in itself is remarkable in Miami-Dade county.
What a piece of history!! Hydro plane races, Jimmy Buffett concerts , this place did it all what great memories I have here. The local artist keep it alive with art now!
Cool place to experience. I love the Artwork from the collective artists. I wish there were more ways to view the stadium seating. There was a metal frame structure in from of the stadium which was being used for a car photoshoot. Little beach areas line the sides of the stadium. Someone lost a bra there- check the pics. Also randomly found a baby SLAUGHTER HOUSE ONLY cow head washed up on the beach. Weird. It's a great strange spot I just had to check out!
