A community coalition dedicated to promoting public access to Friendship Park, the historic bi-national meeting place on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Friendship Park is an historic meeting place at the western-most edge of the U.S. - Mexico border, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. On the US side, Friendship Park is officially "open to the public" Saturdays and Sundays between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We are a coalition of individuals and organizations who care about Friendship Park and advocate for routine public access to 3 key areas of the park - the monument, beach, & bi-national garden.
Create ever more access to bi-national cross border connection at friendship Park in order to enable the creation of friendships, the meeting of families, and the space for collaboration literally across the San Diego/Tijuana border in order to improve the region. We do this through promotion of alternative architectural and landscape designs that reconfigure the space to one that is contiguous across borders and welcomes x-border connection between people. We also hold, promote, and facilitate bi-national events and gatherings in the park.
Our vision:
To create a space that embraces Pat Nixon’s original vision for the park when she stated “may there never be a wall between these two great nations, only friendship” while inaugurating the Park on Aug 18th, 1971.
A space that is similar to Peace arch Park at the border of the US and Canada. Because the Mexican and the US cultures and language differ more than the US and Canada, we look at this space as an opportunity to learn from each others’ diverse cultures and work together to create a flourishing border region from which both nations can benefit as a whole.
