Stop number 3 on the museum tour of Tucson. The history of this location was interesting. most of the Civil War history in Arizona was brief and anti climactic. It was a good visit to see the historical building on site. The museum is small and quaint which was enjoyable when you visit huge museums. It only took a few minutes to walk through to see the history of the fort. They even had a bugle that you could play after sanitizing the mouthpiece. My reveille needs some work. LOL. The artifacts were informative along with the information about the Native American history.
Went March 19, 2022 for the living history pop up. Museum in shambles. Displays torn apart ,display pieces gone ,maybe renovating?.......Very, very sad. Building being adobe block just melting away, so is the kitchen building. Kitchen building locked so no access. Re-enactors there in costumes, soldiers, band, weapons displays, active blacksmith display,so that was interesting...... Heard someone say there's been a bond passed for refurbishment and remediation of the museum buildings. Sure hope so. So glad to be able to go inside even just the one building, even in it's state of upheavel. Ft. Lowell Park and Museum is a very special place with so much history in one place. On a side note. If you drive around in the Ft. Lowell neighborhood there are ruins of the old school house, and also homes from that time period, still in use. We find it to be a very special area.
The fort and the park are wonderful! I took my kids there all the time. I still enjoy walking around especially in the spring when the baby ducklings hatch. Would have given 5 stars but the gopher holes have gotten so bad. Watch your step, ankles beware. Otherwise it's a clean beautiful park with walking paths, playground equipment, tennis courts, wide open spaces and a museum where you can learn about some of Tucson's history.
Was disappointed to find the museum closed. My great-grandparents were some of the original homesteaders of the area. My grandfather was born in the fort hospital. Hope that someday soon it will be open again.
Very limited hours, Thurs-Sat. There is not much of the original fort left you can see. The museum is a recreation of the officer's quarters, which is wooden and nicely done. There is stuff to play with. You can put on a period dress or a period cavalry uniform. I am hoping they will be able to refurbish the building across the street formerly part of the fort and add to the museum complex.
My friend and our dogs very much enjoyed an impromptu drop in to the cute little museum they've got. They do an excellent job with their 1000 tops square feet. Worth a 30-60 minute stroll anytime you find yourself at this park Thursdays through Saturdays. As a baseball lover, got a big kick out of the 19th century squads with "Tucson" adorned across their wool knit sweaters. How hot it must've been standing in Centerfield as the desert heat beat down!
This is a little museum. This is not a place you go to dispense circle hours. But if you want a quick brief history of the way military bases were in a past. This is the best place to do it. Others like this cost money. This one's actually free
Nice lil museum with expert and super nice! Docents. Only takes 30 minutes or so to explore unless you partake in any activities they have going on. Admission is free, though donating a few bucks will help them out! Well-behaved pets are also welcome.
Good place to learn about local history, they can also tell you we're all the museums are in Tucson maybe even even in Arizona, and believe it or not a small donation can go very far, and there is more than meets the eye just talk have a conversation and you will learn a lot ask questions no question is ever too big or too small...Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Due to vandalism, access to the ruins is behind a fence, which is unfortunate. The associated museum is great and worth the trip by itself - and it's free. The museum covers the history of more than just the old fort.
