Organized in 1886, Gainesville Fire Rescue replaced horse-drawn pumpers in 1917 and became a fully-paid fire department in 1925.
Gainesville Fire Rescue has been saving lives and property since 1882. The department's 145 firefighters and 15 emergency vehicles respond to over 16,000 calls a year including building fires, brush fires, vehicle crashes, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, aircraft rescues, and natural disasters.
