I was a "frequent flyer" in the ER for almost 7 months due to a previously unknown gastric issue. I always received prompt, extremely caring, and knowledgeable service here, every time. I'm very grateful for Cottage Hospital ER.
If I could give this hospital a "- Rating" as in a negative 5 rating I would. They deserve it. You can absolutely read an incredible amount of negative reviews below as well from more than just a few patients and I highly doubt anyone is truly addressing these issues and correcting staff that need to be corrected. A Family member of mines was very sick some time ago, she walked into the ER and was given meds and discharged by a Doctor. That went ok despite a very long wait time. Next day after feeling worse and with potentially serious medical issues and several symptoms she went back to the ER since that is medically advised as a preventative measure and to make sure it was not a serious side affect happening there was an ER doctor who shows up with an automatically very angry. Irritated and condescending tone of voice and he basically refused to treat my family member because she had more than 1 issue & because she asked a legitimate medical question about medical contraindications the other time she was at the ER which he brings up......last time I checked it is absolutely perfectly legal to ask questions regarding alcohol, other meds, physical activities and such when being prescribed a medication so there was absolutely no valid or logical reason for that Doctor to have refused to give treatment, he also did no tests he was upset about the fact that my very sick family member had more than one serious symptom occurring! - so are you telling me that a licensed medical doctor gets to only give medical care to a patient if that patient only has 1 medical symptom? I mean how is that Doctor I'm practice? and who else has he done that too? That is serious! And outrageous and not safe at all for a Doctor who clearly is discriminatory to be working there! Because there is absolutely no logical reasons that any patient should be refused care when they are sick because: A- They simply convey to their care provider they have more than one issue or ailment & B- They ask questions about medication because that is what was done to my family! We literally left while she was sick and still with symptoms completely untreated had to go to another hospital where we received polite, attentive and thorough medical care and did not come across a single rude, arrogant, ridiculous or attitude ridden Doctor staff! I absolutely do not suggest anyone bring their family or go to Cottage. I Am also very clearly and evidently not alone in my views about this place it is riddled with very bad reviews across the board. No Wonder.
Customer care is severely lacking. I came into the hospital on 12/14 requesting to see my mother who is currently a patient in the older adult behavioral unit. I was told they didn't allow visitors and when I requested as to why they didn't the lady at the lady at the front desk made a phone call. She was more worried about a going away party they had set up in the main lobby then finding someone who could answer my question. She also suggested that I make my way to the ED and to let someone in that department handle my " problem ". My problem as she refered to it being is my mother who's in her eighties that has dementia. She seemed to be more concerned about removing me from the front lobby so I didn't disturb the party they had planned. My apologies go out to her. I wasn't aware while walking in that I was about to disturb a party they had planned for some doctors that have chosen to resign over staying employed at Cottage Hospital.
I would have given them a 5 star review... HOWEVER... My mom was admitted to the geriatric ward 12 days ago. Due to Covid, we are not allowed to visit in person. I was asked to bring her a couple changes of clothes to the ER so they could take them to her since I was not allowed to go to her room. I delivered her clothed to the ER about an hour after she was admitted. The nurse in the ER said she remembered my mom and would take the clothes to her room right away. Today my mom asked me if I could bring her some clothes because she felt strange wearing clothes out of the lost and found. SHE NEVER GOT HER CLOTHES I BROUGHT UP 12 DAYS AGO!!! I even called the ER to question where her clothes are and they told me since I waited so long to call, they will probably never find them and they are too busy to look. I WAS BLAMED FOR WAITING TOO LONG TO CALL!!! Obviously, since I can only speak to her on the phone, I had no idea the clothes were never taken to her. Now I'm faced with how to solve the problem of no clothes when I am leaving for the airport. However, the nurses and doctors have been incredible. They have kept us up to date on her progress and the care plan. I would recommend Cottage Hospital for the care but unimpressed with staff who blame patient's family for the inadequacies of their own staff.
My mother was in the Geriatric Unit for 40 days with no visitors or fresh air. When we picked her up she was dirty even though I'd asked if they could give her a shower before we started the 18 hour car ride to her memory care facility. She didn't have her hearing aids in -even though we dropped them off and called to make sure they were being used. She didn't have her glasses and she was wearing a diaper even though she is fully capable of knowing when she needs to use facilities. She looked like she would not live more than a week when we picked her up. Two days later she was thriving in her new home. She is so happy to be out of that "prison" as she calls it. The nurses would call us and huff and puff and say our mother had no short term memory. -Of course she doesn't. She has alzheimers. We try to focus on the fact that her medication is properly adjusted. However - it was a horrific experience for her.
I have one star here only because it wouldn't let me put negative. We spent 10 hours in the emergency room!! Not one person relayed information to us about anything. My mother is 81 years old and had to lay there all day. She wasn't even given a blanket until we asked. The only good thing was nurse Kelly. I came here because the other hospital E.R. had gotten bad but I think we made a mistake
The CEO and owning family took every cent they could out of this place. As a result CMS found immediate threat conditions which were not fixed, and canceled their Medicare contract. The hospital is now closed and staff terminated. Eventually I predict the hospital will be sold, and the Sharmas will amass even more money from this deal.
Came in on 10/7 to be checked out and had to have a COVID test and strep test. I got my strep results back after waiting in my vehicle for four hours and finally being taken in for half an hour. I was told my COVID results should be back within 24-48 hours. Here I am four days later with no response. I called three hours ago and got told the person who does those calls should be there soon. I still haven't been notified and this is causing everyone in my home to be forced to stay away from work. I also have to work at 10PM after getting off at 7AM today!
Emergency visits are just that...however my experience was so worthy of a review. From the moment I entered and registered my complaint I was treated with dignity and respect-the admitting staff were great. My nurse Leola and the physician Dr.Rikhye made me laugh in spite of myself and their professionalism were topnotch. I hope their supervisors know what an asset they both are not only to Cottage Hospital but to our entire healthcare commununity. The medic that assisted me continued this treatment of care and concern. I would definitely recommend Cottage Hospital to anyone needing care. Great job everyone !!! I'm on the mend now thanks to my visit and would never hesitate to, should the need arise, seek help at this facility again.
My husband and I came to Galesburg Cottage for a simple study that can be read in less than 24 hours. 2 weeks later and out PCP still hasn’t received records. We have called and left multiple voice mails as it’s impossible to talk to someone and our PCP office has even contacted them. Horrible service and communication.
