"DGCAC is a hub for the cultural arts of the city of Newport News. Located in the Southeast community, it is home to the Charles C. Allen Board Room, the L. Marion Poe Meeting Room, the Thaddeus Hayes Dance Studio, the Newport News Community Gallery, and the Ella Fitzgerald Theater. The building includes many other spaces available for rental and facilitates classes, workshops, and many other programs. Located in downtown Newport News. Don’t be swayed by the location, this was a very well maintained facility.  Enjoyed a performance in the Ella Fitzgerald theater. The lighting was nice, as well as the seating and most importantly, the acoustics.  I had no idea this place was in Newport News. They offer open mic night the second Tuesday of each month AND other free events. This place is all about celebrating the arts and giving back to the community.  Highly recommend going online and checking them out as an option to host your next event.

I absolutely love this place! We appreciate them bringing the ARTS to an underserved community. We've seen plays, attended concerts, had dance class, took pictures with Santa and so much more. Every experience is even more amazing than the last one!

Great cultural experience...August Wilson would be proud of the readings of his plays. Very talented participants. There voices put me right there and props were not needed.

Love this building. It has several uses - daily business, art exhibits, music and arts activities and more.  This particular visit, I attended a Paint & Sip Tea Party. Had a fun time! These type of parties occur about 3-4 times the first half of the year and hosts a guest artist. Luckily, I attended this one - it's the last of the year! Other uses for this spot include job fairs, baby showeres, training classes, luncheons, etc. Great space!

I Just finished viewing the very powerful and entertaining show "For Colored Girls" and it was Absolute  must see!! I must say that I have attended a few productions at the Ella Fitzgerald Theatre in the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center and it has all been a delightful experience! From pricing to the high quality performances.. Just a wonderfully delightful experience.

The Goode dance project was amazing!! The prices are extremely reasonable it was too good to be true! My daughter could not dance in the beginning which is why I signed her up. Not only did she learn how to dance, she made friends and built her confidence! Looking forward to signing up again!! Thank you so much for offering these lessons!!

We. ame here to see the Dreamgirls play. This cultural center is a true gem in Hampton Roads and a great asset to our community! Clean and beautifully designed!

Love that they partner with GOOD Dance to offer afford dance class for our youth. They also offer an amazing summer musical theater camp.
