Gamma Delta Sigma began as a local sorority at Virginia Tech. The sorority was founded in August of 2008 by two determined graduate students, Jeannie Fry and Meredith Vallee. These women were inspired to create an organization where women of all backgrounds could be proud of who they were, foster leadership skills, and develop bonds of sisterhood with a diverse group.
In 2013, Missouri Baptist University student Jerica Marie Drago and Virginia Tech student and current GDS President Miccah Bartley devised a plan to expand to the MBU campus. Ashley Hannegan, Dani Dykstra, Alli Brown, and Anne Salzenstein of MBU also joined the plan that same year. Through the hard work and determination of the girls, along with the Alpha chapter, the Beta Chapter of Gamma Delta Sigma was officially chartered on March 1, 2013. They were the first five sisters of the Beta chapter. From there, the chapter has continued to grow and prosper.
Gamma Delta Sigma offers college women a place in a growing legacy dedicated to the enhancement of the college experience through personal- professional growth, academic success, and social responsibility. Gamma Delta Sigma commits to fostering future leaders through Spartan athletic activities, philanthropic activities, and the unity of the sisterhood.
Gamma Delta Sigma is in full-support of the overall mission of the university: we will be intentional in our faith, we will search for the truth, we will strive to be excellent, we shall encourage the cultivation of character, and we will promote servant leadership.
