We took our first train ride in many years. Traveled from Syracuse to NYC. The Syracuse station offers safe and secure multi-day parking close to the entrance. The station is clean and secure. The train ride business class was adequate with only a handful of stops on the way to NYC. The business class car is located at the end of the train next to the cafe car. The portion of the ride from Albany to NYC is pretty with exceptional views of the Hudson River. Choose your seats for the best views.
Arrived on the 48 Lake Shore Limited to switch trains. The station is nice and clean. Amtrak staff were great. Plenty of seating. Departed on the 64 Maple Leaf.
Friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and professional. Very patient with those that need a little extra help. Waiting area is VERY cold at night, so if you need to wait a while for your Amtak train or Greyhound bus, you'll need a warm sweater, jacket or Hoody.
Today, Sept the 5th, first time I encountered very rude and hateful Amtrak conductor. Amtrak is late most of the time usually by one hour. I was to return from Syracuse to Buffalo starting at 6:51PM. Today it was late by 50 min. No body expected warm greeting, all were tired waiting. The Conductor was not sorry or apologetic as train was late and was ready to take revenge of his bad day. No smile, and very rude. I brought My e-scooter, and this was not the first time, but he is the only one seem to deny my scooter, others let me bring it in the morning and in the evening everything changed. The scooter is folding and meet carry on size requirements. Amtrak does not specify on the website if the scooter is not allowed. It actually says size and weight limitation. They need to specify policies clearly and train this conductor to be nice and welcoming. No body should make up rules and make people suffer.
Amazing experience on the train for the first time. A little crowded getting home but all in all an amazing time.
Conveniently located, easy long- and short-term parking, bright, clean facility, and exceptional, reasonably priced train and bus transportation. More people should look into this as an alternative to flying which seems to be getting more expensive, time consuming, and inconvenient.
Clean, limited time restaurant service. Subway wasn't 24 hours. Even the security guard left and wasn't there for 24 hours. This is a bus and train shared terminal. 4 stars because the restaurant wasn't open 24 hours and all the staff left instead of staying for 24 hours. It was a clean and beautiful sight. The waiting area is spacious enough. There's a vending machine there too. Best bus station bathroom, very clean. I didn't take pictures. I was too annoyed from waiting on the late bus that was smelly that made everyone get off for over 30 minutes to clean only the bus bathroom.
Easy to find and ample parking with reasonable rates $8/day. Reasonably clean, but generally worn-down. Could use some updates - but I suspect wear/tear contributes to the overall design. Has a Subway shop inside. Decent amount of vending machines for snacks and sodas.
Stores have closed. Was a Dunkin' important? To some people, but there is no place for hot food inside this, attractive depot any longer. The arrival/departure signs are great. The people behind the Greyhound counter are an example of Syracuse's poor schools, they're terrible. I am from a city with good schools. What this depot is missing is a parking garage. Going away? You can park, and pay a daily rate, but the lot is uncovered, and open-air. The depot also feels safe enough. Subway is across the street, the shopping mall is a short walk away, local buses, and the train stops here too.
My first train ride! The station was clean, the staff was friendly and I felt safe there. While waiting for the train, there was a "test" to see how staff would handle "suspicious" persons. All of us waiting complemented the gentleman who dealt with the two persons on how effective he was without causing alarm to passengers. This was before we knew it was a "spot check" which they passed with flying colors!!
