The Gate House Museum was founded to share the rich history of Sykesville, MD and surrounding communities.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Sykesville Gate House Museum (SGHM) is to collect, conserve, and document the history of the town of Sykesville and connected communities. The SGHM serves as a center for community education and historical interpretation of the Town’s heritage, and hosts special events highlighting history, the arts, and culture.
Vision Statement
The vision of the Sykesville Gate House Museum (SGHM) is to become a cultural focus for the Town of Sykesville and the main destination for the Historic District; to collaborate with local businesses, schools, and community groups to provide education, historical interpretation and recreation of the Town of Sykesville and connected communities.
Library
The museum has a research library that is open to the community as a resource regarding people, houses, events, copies of the Sykesville Herald, etc
Museum Tours

Volunteer Opportunities
The museum is highly dependent on volunteers for its ongoing work and success. Volunteers can select from one of the following areas of need:
1. Data entry – posting the museum’s large collection of items
2. Exhibit design, planning, and assembly
3. Grounds maintenance, especially in the spring and fall of the year
4. Presentations for program use and for visitors who missed prior events
5. Research for an increasing number of internet inquiries regarding local history
