Generation Justice (GJ) is a multi-media movement that trains youth (13-25) to harness the power of media and give rise to narratives based on truth, analysis, and hope. GJ provides premium radio broadcasting classes, video production, and blogging. Using a positive youth development approach, GJ works in the following domains: media literacy, racial equity, civic engagement, academic achievement and career opportunities. GJ youth members build the skills and agency to shift the future of media.
These skills are combined with love of self and community, media/social justice, and critical thinking to produce quality narratives that represent New Mexico. In addition, Generation Justice provides a one-year fellowship program for current college students of color interested in careers in media and journalism. The GJ Fellows program is a career pipeline for young journalists of color. It offers intense hands-on training as well as networking and training opportunities with seasoned journalists and media advocates like Maria Hinojosa, Jess Cohen, and Joseph Torres.
Our hope is to build a community of informed, educated, skilled, engaged citizens who will not hesitate to use the power of media as a tool for social justice.
Generation Justice’s mission is to inspire youth to become media makers committed to social transformation.
