Genoa (Amtrak station)

Description

The Genoa Amtrak station was a proposed train station to be located in Genoa, Illinois, and would have served a new Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque Amtrak route that was expected to begin operation in late 2014 or early 2015. Genoa would have served the growing population of DeKalb County, as well as Northern Illinois University, which is located about 16 miles south of the station. There were never official plans for the station released, although students from Genoa-Kingston High School did unofficial designs for the station. Those designs may have potentially been used for the station.Cancellation of ProposalOn April 10, 2014, a new plan for Amtrak service that would omit Genoa was released due to the inability for IDOT to negotiate a deal with the Canadian National Railway, who owns the tracks the old proposal was going to use. The new proposal is going to use a route through downtown Elgin, Huntley, and Belvidere before terminating in Rockford.
