Strong dance technique, intensive theory, guest artist residencies, abundant performance opportunities – these are the trademarks of our degree.
The School of Dance at Mason is increasingly acknowledged as one of the premier institutions offering professional preparation for a career in dance as a performer, teacher, creative artist or administrator. Rigorous conservatory training combined with a liberal arts education also provides the foundation for continuing education in law, business, education or medical field.
The School of Dance is committed to providing its majors the best environment for artistic, intellectual and educational growth. Our standard of excellence, beginning with the highly selective audition process, encourages our majors to fulfill their professional potential. We teach a comprehensive dance curriculum with an emphasis on rigorous modern dance and ballet technical preparation which serves as the foundation for our students' participation as active members of the dance community. As emerging artists, our majors contribute to the cultural vitality of the university and the region by performing their own original choreography and that of master choreographers. The school is also committed to providing all university undergraduates with a wide range of classes in concert and world dance forms. Central to this mission is the desire to foster a deeper understanding of dance as a global medium of artistic expression.
