I have come at least 7 times since it’s close to my job. It’s so nice to see all the art but don’t expect to be able to finish it all within 4 hours. I think it would take a whole day to complete but that sounds awesome to me because all the art is so beautiful. Especially the French area. Love the gift shop and found my new favorite tea there. Anytime friends want to know something to do, I always recommend going here. Took my husband for his first time there as well. Great date, adventure, or just study and chill location. They have a cafe that has foods like sandwiches and chips as well as some sweet treats. They also serve beer/wine if that’s your thing. There are also 2 other restaurants on the premises but when I went it was a very limited menu so I didn’t end up trying anything. According to the servers the portions are about the size of a baby bowl but for the price of a feast yet also mediocre quality. So I personally don’t recommend but if you really want the Beverly Hills experience and to feel fancy, I’d recommend other places than this restaurant. However it doesn’t change my opinion on the museum itself. I never bought or reserved a ticket and never had issues going in. They always say that next time I will need to reserve but I’ve gone so often without doing that so go at your own risk if you don’t want to reserve a ticket.
Pros: - Free admission: The Getty is free to enter and you can enjoy art from various eras and regions. - Beautiful view: The Getty is located on the Santa Monica Mountains and offers a stunning view of LA. The garden and fountains are also very peaceful and beautiful. - Various exhibition halls: The Getty has four main exhibition halls and a gift shop. Paintings, sculptures, photographs, etc. from Europe and the United States from the Middle Ages to the present are on display. Cons: - Parking fee: The Getty is free to enter, but the parking fee is $20. If you visit the Getty Villa on the same day, you only need to pay the parking fee once. - Weather and shade: The Getty is located on the Santa Monica Mountains and can be very hot in summer with little shade. You should bring or rent an umbrella to block UV rays. - Food and drink: The Getty has restaurants and cafes, but they are expensive and not very tasty. It’s better to bring your own food for a picnic. However, alcoholic beverages are prohibited. See the Getty's collection of European and American art from the Middle Ages to the present against a backdrop of dramatic architecture, tranquil gardens, and breathtaking views from downtown L.A. to the sea. If you are looking for something fun to do in L.A
Very hot weekend 8/26, and they had umbrellas for guest to use as they walked the garden area. Everyone on site from the docents to the information counter are very friendly and helpful. Beautiful overall. Need to make reservations. Pay for parking. Access to museums and gardens is free. They also have a food court and restaurant. They also have beverage carts that sell wine beer, water, and other snacks.
The admission tickets are free, make sure to reserve online! Parking fee is $20 if entering before 3pm. Beautiful architectures and design starts from the tram to the museum. Plenty of different art/activities/tours to see and participate in here! We visited early in the morning so it was not too crowed. Kids-friendly, recommend if you like museums, art gallery, etc.
For the price of parking your car $20 you get to see some truly stunning and incredibly valuable art. And if you arrive by bus I guess it's free! Well organized tram up the hill. Galleries were not too crowded. Great views over LA on clear days.
Beautiful architecture, art, and landscaping. You can spend at least 3-4 hours here not only exploring the each building and their exhibits, but to stop and appreciate the buildings themselves. In terms of the exhibits though, the Photo gallery is amazing. They have Tim Walker on display and rarely am I into photography, but he is so creative. Each segment is explained by what he is inspired by and then the subsequent photos reflect that inspiration. Absolutely creative and beautifully artistic pieces ensue. Highly recommended for even that exhibit alone.
It is a wonderful place. Well designed buildings, famous art works, beautiful central garden, even the tram to the top offers great views. The cafe under the restaurant has reasonable price. We spent 4 hours there but still haven’t seen all of the exhibits. So much too see and experience. Would love to visit there again.Visited onWeekdayWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entryFree
This museum is FREE. Parking depends on how long you're in the museum but the max is $20. The tram takes you up to the museum from the parking structure is free and less than 5 minutes. This museum is HUGE. I'd recommend to wear comfortable, shoes, a hat, a water bottle, and some snacks to save money. All the artworks are indoors but you do have to go outside to get to other buildings for more artworks. And, should definitely check out the garden. The artworks are separated by different areas and time periods. They provide umbrella for shade or for the rain which I found interesting. Took around 4 hours with no tour guidance to walk around and hopefully see everything. I want to add that you can bring big backpacks, but just have them in front of you to prevent any accidents.
What a wonderful, luxurious and precious museum in LA! Not mentioning it's totally free, it's definitely worth to visit even if it's not free. The whole Museum is on the hill and well designed and constructed. Not only it has great collectionsof various kinds of arts from old time to contemporary, but also it also has great views of LA and amazing gardens. It's so relax and enjoyable here. You can easily spent hours and hours here. Please noted that: no public free parking on site or nearby, you have to park inside the garage, then you can either taking the train or bus to the museum main building, or if you want, you can also walk all the way to there. Each of the way offers a unique experience. Be aware that it requires a reservation in advance now otherwise you might not be admitted to go in. Highly recommended and had fun.
So much fun for the whole family! We've lived here for almost 5 yrs and have never been. We went onto their website and followed all of the directions for an easy and stress free experience. We reserved a time online, we had to pay for parking but the entrance was free. This fee is actually good for the same day visit to the other location that they have. The kids loved the train ride up to the museum where we were greeted and welcomed. The workers were helpful and told us about the free strollers they offer. The exhibits are well put together and the property is well maintained.
