I'd give this place zero stars if I could. Unprofessional nurses and doctors. After being on a ventilator for 5 days I was finally strong enough to use the restroom. After finishing up I discovered I had a thermometer stuck in my rectum. That is just the tip of the iceberg honestly. I wouldn't even take my worst enemy there.
My father who is has stage 4 cancer was taken here and sat for 5+Hrs and they took everyone ahead of him and when our family approached staff about his level of care and pain they said they where cleaning a room for him. Still never called for him and took other patients. I understand others need care that may be worse but these patients had a broken finger and where way younger. He is very sick and has problems breathe and is a a wheelchair. Then when he decided to just leave they wanted him to sign a form that he denied treatment. No u denied him treatment in our eyes and we will not sign your form to cover your butts. All they had to do was say we are busy it’s gonna be a long wait and we would have found care else where.
My loved one was taken to the Gettysburg ER. Although in extreme physical decline, I was ill-equipped to fully understand that end-of-life was near. The attending nurse provided stellar, first rate care and the equipment and room appeared to be very nice and clean. Unfortunately, another nurse whose name I will omit had an extremely unpleasant demeanor. She advised me that only two family members total the identical same two family members only would be permitted to see the patient for the duration of stay. There are understandably policies and procedures that must be adhered to, but why argue about it in front of a cognizant, dying patient? It is inexcusable that such information was relayed with a bad attitude and chip on the shoulder in front of a dying patient. It is just that simple. Just TRY be nice about it. If you are unable to genuinely be nice, fake it. If unable to do that, locate a more professional colleague who can. My loved one died a few days later.
My wife spent the week before Christmas 2021 at Gettysburg hospital. She went in with kidney failure and dehydration. She came home with a fractured tailbone and.memory loss. She spent the first night in an ER room. The.next day they moved her to the 2nd floor. On the 3rd night she hurt her back somegow. Said she slipped getting out of bed.and hit guardrail. She said a tech was with her.. A day later they were ready to release her but she could not walk. Their answer was to move her into another room with a person with an imfection. They also had 4 different painkillers in her and a lidocaine patch on her back. Her memory was gone. I told them she didnt need.all those painkillers and they said they would stop them but the.next day put another lidocaine patch on her back. The next day, DR. CHIPINAPI said she was ok to go home. The.problem is, she was not. She didnt even know who I was. She didnt remember anything and it took her weeks to get her memory back. I told Dr. chipinapi there was something wrong and he INSISTED she was fine!! When we got home I filed a complaint. She got a letter saying they would do an investigation. The SAME DAY I got a letter in the.mail saying their investigation was complete. WOW THAT WAS QUICK!! So I called them and they said they would reopen the investigation and they SPOKE WITH THE TECH. When I asked the techs name they said "we dont have that information" THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST QUESTION THEY SHOULD HAVE ASKED!!! I realize Dr. Chipinapi was probably already looking at facing a Nuremberg Trial 2.0 and the more people they get in and out of the hospital means more money he makes during Cash Grab Covid season, So he probably figured my wife's memory loss was nothing in comparison to the crimes against humanity this hospital has already commited!! I have lived on 3 continents and have been to alot of hospitals. This one was definitely the worst!!
I just spent 21 days here with Covid. I cannot say enough good about the hospital. I was in pretty bad shape. The Dr's, nurses, respiratory therapists, and nurses assistants were all extremely supportive, with a positive outlook. The nurses all worked with me to do the things I needed to overcome this nasty desease. The respiration al therapist were always willing to talk to me about how I was doing and what I could do to get better. They all literally saved my life. The ER was great getting me in and diagnosed and admitted. The food was way better than what I expected for a hospital. London broil, salmon, crab cakes, a great grilled cheese sandwich, and the entire menu surprised me, it was very good. For anyone who has spent time in a hospital you know it is the little things that make a difference. The staff there never failed to help me get what I asked for. They were extremely professional, caring, compassionate, and efficient. Bear in mind the entire floor was filled the entire 21 days I was there. These folks are risking their own health to take care of their patients. In fact a number of the nurses had contracted covid while taking care of patients. Then they came back and did it again I hold tremendous respect for these pros.
The nursing staff and doctors were courteous, caring, and actually listened to me as the patient. Their patient care was outstanding!
I'd give 5 stars if the staff attended to patients quicker and followed through with orders in a timely manor.
My daughter fell and injured her hands before we even got a bed Dr. Rosenbach saw her and sent her for x-rays. He came back within 10 min giving us the results. That was the fastest care I have ever had! Thank you
The hospital in general is fine, as long as you do not have to go to the ER. I took my teenage daughter to the ER & we were the only ones there. They were beyond slow & so not friendly. We had the 'joy' of getting nurse Stephanie to put an IV into my daughters arm. She was a total B. I can understand her hating her job, but she should still treat her patients nicely. As for the attending DR in the ER, he was nice, but totally clueless. He asked my daughter if she knew how to take out her own IV!?? We told him NO, then he said ok, I'll send a nurse to help you. At first, we thought he was joking, but he wasn't. Thank God Stephanie left for the evening & we were greeted by Ashley. She was the total opposite of Stephanie & did a great job. Oh, and on the way out, was charged $125 co-pay twice.
Back in 2017 I was hospitalized with DKA diabetic ketoacidosis I was dying and I felt it. I remember asking for water as my throat was extremely dry and my lips were purple and chipped . They said they could give me " ice chips " but I never got anything. They pumped 2 full bags of insulin into me. I had the worst headache of my life and I was soon transferred to Hershey's Medical Center. It was there when they told me that they have given me too much insulin and that the headache could have been possibly been brain damage. Every 30 minutes doctors were rushing in to keep an eye on me and said that I was in good hands in Hershey and if I would have stayed and Gettysburg they wouldn't have known what would have happend to me. Ever since that incident I refused to go to this hospital and we'll make the extra trip to go to another. I'm not the only one that has had problems I have had multiple family members have problems here and even a death. Even the nurses there have an opinion about it. I do not trust that hospital and everyone that works in it. This Hospital should be shut down.
