First time here. Girlfriend and I wanted some quick Mexican food. Overall, did not disappoint! Parking: street or a small lot in back. We went around 10am on Sunday and couldn't find any parking. With a little patience, we finally got a spot in the back lot. Ambience: loved it! This place is very laid back and homey feeling. With a great sense of community. The tables have photo collages in them off family and friends and regulars. Very cool! Plenty of coverage from the sun and heaters if it gets cold. Service: everyone was very nice and genuine!! The food: I only got a bean and cheese burrito which was pretty good. Tortilla was nice and fresh and homemade, beans were a little dry. My gf got a chicken enchilada and said it was pretty solid. Not the best ever but definitely didn't disappoint. The chips were a bit hard for my taste, but I know plenty of people that like them that way. Price: pretty average for the area. Not over priced but not a steal either. Conclusion: Gilbert's El Indio was a very pleasant Sunday bunch for us and would definitely come again. Would recommend this place for anyone looking for some good Mexican food with a great atmosphere.
Love the food love the atmosphere..service is perfection ..if ur craving best Mexican Food in Los Angeles at good prices go here!!Food: 5/5
This restaurant has some of the best Mexican food! The menu has a great variety of enchiladas, fajitas, quesadillas, tamales, and other delicious foods! The margarita pitchers are a great deal and are absolutely delicious! i would recommend the raspberry or mango flavored margarita. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful as well. The outdoor patio has lots of shade and it’s nice to eat and relax out there on a summer evening.
received a very warm welcome from the host - she is the nicest and most helpful. all staff are super friendly. seemed like there were lots of regulars when we went, so that goes to show that the place is well-liked. our combination plates were between $16-$17; the tacos were bigger than your usual tacos/street tacos. the rice could be a bit softer. the "diablo" salsa, which what i enjoyed the most, was apparently made daily by different waiters, so you would know who made the salsa depending on the day you come when you become a regular diner.
Pros : - Nice variety on the menu. - Great outdoor seating area. - Margaritas are on point - Very good, amicable customer service. Bonus shout-out to Ricardo our server, he was excellent! Heads Up : - They don't take reservations and this place can get very busy, so if you have a big party 13+Group, you may have to wait 30 minutes or more. We were a group of 15, but luckily for us we got seated within 10 minutes since the shortlist was small that day.
The staff as a whole was beyond kind and welcoming. Greeted from almost everyone on staff at any point of the night. The Guac and chips were delicious as I happen to love tortilla chips made freshly on premise. I went for the Steak Picada as my entree and WOW! Bursting with flavor from the first bite. Lovely warm seating arrangement and decor that is perfectly set up for this place. Will surely be coming back again.
Been coming to this restaurant for over 15 years and they do not disappoint. Food still tastes amazing and the staff is just amazing. They take pride in working here and it shows, if you're looking for a great Mexican food restaurant then look no further as this restaurant specializes in authentic mexican food.Food: 5/5
This is a Santa monica icon. It is a family owned business. I very glad that they were able to make it through the hard times of covid. My parents took me here when I was little. I took my wife. She had Chilaquiles and beans. I had chicken tamale and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The food is great and service is great.
A local favorite for decades. The family that runs this place is super cool and well established in the community. They have supported us with quality food and more and are here for you to enjoy. Patio, tradition, quality. They have it all. Gracias Gilberts.
Cool vibe! This family owned restaurant serves large portions and everything was full of flavor. top notch service! There is plenty of outdoor seating.Food: 5/5
