The German Chocolate Cake with raspberry dipping sauce was unbelievably good. Probably the best cake donut I've ever had. The coffee was also delicious. My only regret is that I didn't try the chicken beignet. But I will be back!
After reading the Thrillist article on this place, I could not get them out of my mind. But I'm on a no-wheat diet... so what to do? Wait until my birthday to come here of course! I pigged out on so many wheat foods on my birthday :P The parking gods smiled on me on my birthday and I managed to find metered street parking a block west on Santa Monica Blvd. And what was even better was that the meter still had over an hour left on it! WOOT WOOT :D Dena O. and JQ treated me to a delicious dessert meal of sweet doughnuts and mimosas. We got the following: 1. Brown Butter Maple Bacon: A yeast raised donut, dipped in our house-made brown butter maple glaze, and topped with crispy, thick cut maple bacon. Paired with their caramel sauce. -- This doughnut was delicious, OF COURSE. Doughnut + maple + bacon... how can you go wrong with that equation?! The caramel sauce was a bit overkill though... completely unnecessary. 2. Jimmy Carter & Jelly: A handcrafted Bismarck donut filled with market fresh seasonal jam, dipped in a rich peanut butter glaze and topped with crushed butter toffee peanuts make this donut an instant American Classic. -- Obviously I did not try this one since I have a peanut allergy. But Dena and Joyce shared it and enjoyed it. We could have picked a sauce to go with it but Dena felt it would be rich enough on its own and it was so she opted for no sauce. 3. Tres Tres Leches: A soft vanilla cake donut soaked in a sweet 3-milk bath flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. It's garnished with a delicate Chantilly cream and seasonal market fresh fruit. Paired with their tres leches sauce. -- I poured a good amount of the sauce all over the doughnut before digging into it. WOW. While I will always hold a soft spot in my heart for maple bacon doughnuts, this was definitely the better doughnut. It was so moist and light and airy... the cream and fruit complimented the doughnut perfectly and it was just so delicious. I had to control myself so I wouldn't eat the entire thing without sharing :P 4. Mimosas: Blueberry Pomegranate and Orange Mango -- On the weekends, Glazed Donut Bistro offers a 2-for-1 deal on their mimosas if you buy a doughnut. We bought three... so obviously we were eligible for this discount. As luck would have it, they were offering two kinds of mimosas, so we got one of each! I tried both of them. While the Blueberry Pomegranate was good, the Orange Mango was even better all three of us agreed on this. It was a nice refreshing drink to have along with the heavier doughnuts. After thinking about this place non-stop for almost two months, I am glad I finally got to come here and try their delicious doughnuts! I definitely need to come back for lunch, though, because I really want to try their savoury doughnuts served from 11am on. I didn't say any listed on their menu when I went so I wasn't sure if they were still available... but even if they were, we had already had brunch so it wouldn't have been a viable option. So I will be back, because not only does their Monte Cristo doughnut look delicious, but how can anyone say no to FRIED CHICKEN BEIGNET?!
Get the fried chicken beignets
