Glenwood Cavaliers

About

I have been involved with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for over 30 years, including showing, breeding, and "puppy/dog sitting for small breeds.

Description

I have been breeding and showing Cavaliers for over 30 years, and have an excellent reputation for health, temperament, small size, and a very special upbringing for my babies. I breed only tested Cavaliers, and I research and monitor the entire pedigrees and health histories of my dogs and their ancestors. I also encourage, or I should say, insist, that I be kept apprised of any health issues throughout the lives of the puppies I place. This information helps me make decisions regarding breeding so that I can continually improve on the health of my dogs. Breeding is an awesome responsibility and it's taken very seriously.

Even though my health no longer allows me to raise the babies myself, I have been fortunate in finding Dan and Diane Robinson to share in that responsibility as my partners. As a team, we work extremely hard at breeding and raising the “perfect” pet first, and "show potential" second. That does not mean our puppies are any less "show potential" that other reputable breeders attempting to breed the very best. It means simply that we believe very strongly that all Cavaliers, whether intended for show or as a family pet, need to be loved first and have a cherished place in the family, regardless of your goals or intentions for them. They want only to be loved by you and will perform in the ring like a champion if they have that. We sell our "show potential" puppies only under those conditions.

We work extremely hard at breeding and raising the “perfect pets", and finding owners deserving of the quality we produce and the extra work we put into doing so. We seek out owners who are as selective and careful about picking a breeder, as we are about picking our puppies new "forever" families.

From day one, our pups are kissed and loved all over by the three of us. By the time they go home they have already been "cautiously" exposed to a variety of people from young to old, taught to "go poddy" outside on command, taught their new names selected by the new family, and 90% sleep quietly in their crate through the night from the first night. As far as I know, we (my partner and I) are the only breeders who do all the extra training and socializing.

We have spent many years developing my breeding program and successfully breeding healthy, happy, generally small size Cavaliers.
Our work begins with the careful matching of each female and stud dog to the dog's death, hopefully at least 12-14 years later. Since, with assistance from God, and the doggy "moms and dads", we are responsible for the "creation" of each puppy; we feel obligated to do everything possible to ensure each pup lives a long, full, and happy life. As part of that program, we remain actively involved beginning with the selection of each mated pair, to the whelping, upbringing, and finally the "very selective" placement of each puppy. We take responsibility for each life from birth to it's passing over the Rainbow Bridge so we remain available to each new family for the life of the Cavalier or as long as we are needed.

We are not breeding dogs to sell, we are creating wonderful family members to place in homes where they will be appreciated for all the extra work put into them, including loving them as though they were a child.

In addition to phone and email consultations as needed, other support services offered at Glenwood Cavaliers include: an annual “Cavalier Picnic”, annual visits from local Cardiologist Jerry Woodfield for "heart testing" (all are welcome for a nominal fee), a Cavalier newsletter, private training (also has a nominal fee),and dog sitting which enables me to keep an eye on the pups forever.

Glenwood Cavaliers will care for Cavaliers and other small breeds who meet our criteria while owners take vacations or simply need a break while they remodel their home, etc.. Additionally, I take dogs in for specific "training" issues on request. The reason we refer to our care as "sitting" instead of boarding is because the dogs are simply "added to our family". They are on my bed watching TV, playing with a "pal", checking out a new friend, following me around or romping in one of the play yards as they choose. Our secure facilities are in a clean and beautiful country setting only minutes from Highway 16 in Port Orchard, 25 minutes from the Narrows Bridge, and 20 minutes from the Southworth Ferry. We are "handicapped" accessible for small dogs and happy to assist with medications and other special needs. Our fees are nominal, especially compared to others offering the same services and our clients come from the Canadian to the Oregon borders to have us care for their pets. We will consider any small dogs who meet the below criteria.

The Rules: (Criteria for acceptance)

1. Clients (Dogs) need to be adequately vaccinated. I use the term "adequately" because the "rules" as to what vaccines are needed, and how often, have changed in recent years. The vaccines have been found to last much longer than the "one year" required in the past.
2. Dogs must be free of fleas
People who bring me dogs with even one flea WILL NOT be invited back.
3. Dogs must be crate trained
With special permission, I will "consider" allowing a dog to sleep without a crate for an additional fee of $5-$10 per night.
4. Dogs must be of "relatively" small size
If over 30#, special permission required.
5. Dogs must play well with others
Aggressive dogs cannot be included as we are one big happy family "without bars"!
6. Must not KILL cats
Our cats can take care of themselves around normal dogs. They get along well with dogs and will stay away from those who harass them.
7. New clients must complete an information form.
8. Pick up and drop off times need to be between 1 PM-1 AM. Special arrangements can be made for other times.

CURRENT FEES, as of January 1, 2016
(fees are charged "per night")
ADULTS: $20
(over the age of poddy "accidents" and excessive chewing, and "sleeps in". Generally between 8 mo. & 1 year for Cavaliers). If your "puppy" behaves as an adult, based on the above criteria, he will be charged as an adult.
PUPPIES: $25

ADDITIONAL FEES: VARY
Training fees depend on the need and circumstances. Other fees may apply, though not typically, for unusual situations.

Instead of a website, I use my Flickr site which contains a variety of albums, including one for each litter over the last few years, albums for breeding stock which contain health, pedigree and DNA information along with photos, a training video, etc. That link is:
