About

pottery classes, workshops, camps, birthday parties, private lessons, membership

Description

Our fully equipped teaching studio has 19 electric potters wheels, 4 electric kilns, a Bailey Gas Kiln purchased in 2011, a pugmill, slab roller, wall extruder, and state-of-the-art cleaning facilities. The studio is also available for practice on a membership basis.

We offer over 80 pottery courses a year (some in French) for adults and teens from Level 1 through to Professional Wheel-throwing including (off wheel) Handbuilding classes. Our courses run on a semester basis starting each September, February, April and July and are taught by nine experienced instructors.

Children's classes for 7 - 13 years are given on Saturdays and Sundays and we offer After School classes most days of the week. In addition, we have Parent and Me for 4 - 10 years.

March Break and Summer Camp programs are geared especially for children and teens. They provide an opportunity for young people to experience a five day introduction to pottery. Some will do handbuilding, and be able to build their own special projects. Others will learn the first steps needed for working on the wheel. It is recommended that only students 12 years and older sign up for the wheel camps.

We offer professional pottery workshops by visiting artists and we give workshops for numerous groups including at present: Children’s Birthday Parties, Brownies, Sparks, Pathfinders, Scouts, Corporate Team Building groups, School classes and for Special Occasions as well as Special Needs groups. Private lessons are also available.

Workshops on Raku and Smoke Firing for more advanced students are held in the Spring and Fall.

We operate the Dust Evans Gallery which showcases six professional artists each year. Most of these artists give workshops in our studio.

Mission

The Gloucester Pottery School is an incorporated not-for-profit community organization that has been established to provide a broad program of high quality pottery classes and workshops at a reasonable tuition to individuals from early childhood to adult and to provide a safe studio environment in which to practice.
