My Mom and I went to pottery lessons in Amarillo during my junior high years. Don Marcum was our teacher there. During the next few years I added a wheel, a kiln, had very basic studio in our enclosed back porch where I began to explore all the many facets of this wonderful magical craft of ceramics. Took a class at Amarillo College. Curtis was our instructor. Can't remember his last name. Saw a presentation by Paul Soldner that year. Through the years I have taken classes when able, always offered to do throwing demonstrations to the art classes where I taught. Mainly to get an excuse to get on a wheel! When Dave found out I was a potter, though inactive, suggested I kick start my craft again...pun intended...and offer my wares at his booth at the trade days where he was selling his western wear and knives. Boom! I couldn't wait and immediately dove back in. Now there is just no place I would rather be than my new studio! I put on a little John Michael Talbot worship music, begin my work and just float away into the joy of building! I often tell my friends I now feel truly retired! Subbing in the Fort Worth ISD just felt like another phase of work. I enjoyed the kids, just didn't enjoy punching the clock. Which, literally was now a part of my day in the schools where I sub as the Affordable Care Act requires we document our days in the classroom for tax purposes or some sort of reason. Just one more incentive to get up in the morning, get a cup of coffee, a banana or apple and some peanut butter, do my scripture reading and spend time with my BFF Jesus. Fee Toby and Pooh, walk Toby then settle into my studio for a long day of fun and creation. Anyway. Enough about me. Thanks for listening!
