The Golden Gate Bridge opened to pedestrians on May 27, 1937, and to traffic the following day, May 28, 1937. At that time, it was the longest suspension bridge ever built. It is truly an engineering marvel, a structure of magnificence, grace, and beauty. A true American Icon with a rich history.
