My 13 boxes plus a couple other items bike and vacuum were picked up on may 15th in CA. They weren’t delivered until June 10th. Luckily it was a small load so easy to know what was or wasn’t mine because a box and a duffle bag were unloaded with my stuff. I gave them back to the movers as they were not mine. I also told the movers I was missing box number 3. I labeled all boxes so it would be easy to know if one was missing. It is now aug 8th and I am still missing said box. I filed a claim in June. Filled out their additional paper work in July and again they are asking me to submit a package of papers. I don’t normally complain as I know things happen but this is unacceptable and there is no ownership on behalf of the company.
As a single gal out here on her own it's scary having to find help moving. I called all over and had three people come out for estimates that were total creeps and way too much. Until a friend recommended his piano movers to me. He said they also do household moves. Sure enough I called Golden Gate and PJ came out and was a sweetheart not at all creepy like the others. Really upfront and honest. Arrived on time as said and had a crew available the next week to make my move. It was amazing! I didn't lift a finger and all the guys were so careful and friendly. It's an old school family owned business with noticeable ethic and integrity. Can't go wrong! And they hoist through windows in the city! They're crazy good.
My first contacts with Golden Gate moving were promising. The owner, PJ, came by to do the estimate and he was a real veteran - inspired confidence. The office team were very responsive and helpful. The crew showed up on time, were courteous and efficient, and everything went very smoothly. All good so far. Even when I had an issue with getting my items inventoried and labeled for international ocean shipment they went out of their way to accommodate my needs, taking items out of storage and labeling them on the spot. So why two stars? The problem is that I have two high-quality desk lamps - Artemide Tolomeo - and they were not wrapped carefully enough so that the metal lamp shade came directly into contact with the highly polished aluminum and therefore relatively soft metal lamp base. In transit, this resulted in ugly scratches on both the base and the lamp shade. When I contacted Golden Gate, I was told that when the items were picked up by the international shipper, who signed off that everything was in perfect condition, Golden Gate no longer had responsibility. The issue is that, clearly, the fact that the lamp shades were not adequately protected from the base could not possibly be seen by the shipper since the lamp was, at that point, wrapped in about 5 layers of brown wrapping paper. Bottom line: I have two $350 lamps that are damaged and no further responses regarding some sort of settlement. The good news is that they did a great job of packing many other valuable items that could have been damaged without their expert job of packing so I guess it balances out. If you decide to use Golden Gate, I would be present to look, carefully, at how things are being wrapped to be sure that your valuables are afforded the protection that they need. My hope is that Golden Gate will step up to the plate and work out some compensation for the damage to these lamps. This would be consistent with my experience with them as being fair and responsive. We'll see.
The three men that helped us out were excellent in every way: they knew what they were doing, were kind, knowledgeable, careful with our stuff, and hard workers...
This is the second time I've hired Golden Gate Moving to move our antique piano, and both times they were wonderful to work with. If you're looking for responsive, professional movers, hire them!
They tailgated me, flipped me off and the driver took a video of us in retaliation of my pic of his license plate. He was driving!!! I was a passenger! I had my baby in the car, he could have hurt us. For what, his ego??
I had a bad experience dealing with this company, and I would not recommend their services to anyone.
