Goliath (Six Flags Magic Mountain)

Description

Goliath is a steel roller coaster made by Giovanola of Switzerland. The hypercoaster is located in the Screampunk District area of Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California and is promoted with a sub-tropical theme that is characterized by ruins of the ancient Mayan civilization. The ride is nearly identical to Titan at Six Flags Over Texas. Its differences from its Six Flags twin is that Goliath lacks the 540-degree upward helix on Titan prior to the mid-course brake run (Goliath simply banks left to the brake run instead) and Goliath is also slightly shorter than Titan.During a brief period from its opening on February 11 to May 13, 2000, Goliath's 255ft opening drop was recognized as the longest and fastest (90.2 mph) on a closed-circuit roller coaster in the world. Millennium Force at Cedar Point eclipsed these records when it opened on May 13, 2000 with a drop of 300ft and speeds of 93mi/h.Ride experienceLeaving the station, the train makes a nearly 180 degree right turn. The train then ascends the lift hill, reaching a height of 235ft. Ascent slows toward the top of the hill, a safety feature that reduces stress on the chain; it is also an attempt to reduce positive g-forces and increases rider anticipation. The train begins accelerating down the initial 255ft drop, into an underground tunnel, reaching a speed of 85 MPH. Upon exiting the tunnel, the train heads upwards into a banked right turn that towers above the roller coaster Twisted Colossus. After completing the turn, the train heads down another drop, flattening out to pass by the onride camera. An airtime hill and banked left turn (rather than a helix on "Titan") follows into the mid-course brake run. The train is decelerated quickly and makes a hard left turn out of the brake section. Another 180 degree banked turn directs the train into a 585 degree, descending helix. Then, the track turns upwards and banks left. After an ascending right turn, the train reaches the final brake run.

Shocked at the lack of a wait time for such a great ride. Yes, Goliath is smooth - maybe even too smooth for a rollercoaster. But that first drop is amazing! And the helix can definitely cause you to gray out in a good way!. The California sun has done a number on the paint job - hopefully Goliath gets a fresh coat in the new few years. The giant Goliath sign is also so photogenic. I’ve ridden Goliath at Great America and this is definitely the better version!
It has a good first drop but was slightly boring to me. I love that it is smoother and longer than most in the park as well as not entirely chaotic. It’s slightly bumpy and made me dizzy. I just wish it was more exciting like Kings Island’s Diamondback. Worth going on though.
Great huge initial drop. Not much twisting though, but that is okay since there are plenty of other coasters here that give you the twisting experience. Goliath and West Coast Racers are definitely the two smoothest non-kiddie coasters in the park.
There’s naysayers that say the initial drop is too smooth. Complete nonsense. Maybe for a 0.5% of crazy adrenaline junkies, but for the rest, this ride is amazing. The initial drop, the air time, and that final horizontal loop will push you into your seat and send blood to all the wrong places. Great ride!
I love this rollercoaster, it is one of my favorite thrill rides! I try to make sure that every time I go to Six Flags Magic Mountain, that I ride this roller coaster. It is a must ride for all thrill seekers!
Most mild hyper I’ve been on so far, minus the intense helix which I actually greyed out on! Ride is smooth and pleasant though, with one good airtime moment. I’d say it’s a great ride for anyone trying to overcome their fear of heights on a roller coaster.
I did this ride just the day the park opened after being closed through covid. This was the first ride we did. After the first drop, the bar broke! It like unlocked!!! I couldnt get it back in place because it wouldnt lock. Thankfully i was fine. But when i told an employee after i got off, they didnt even really care. They just kept the ride going. It took them like 20 whole minutes before they closed it like they were supposed. I am now officially afraid of roller coasters. Will i be coming here again? NOPE!
Great ride. The roller coaster towers over several of the other rides, and, like some others at the park, offers a great view from the top of the chain lift. I love the fact that it slows down at the top and barely crawls over the crest of the lift. Though I wish this ride gave the riders a bit more forceful airtime, the floater air time is quite nice. I also love the tunnel at the bottom of the first drop which I believe would be better if it we're steeper as the tunnel provides a wonderful head chopper feeling. Warning: This ride can cause some to black out. The double helix is pretty great, I personally never have blacked out on a roller coaster, but I have come close on a few this ride is one of those few. I have experienced some of my friends passing/blacking out on this ride, and it makes me laugh every time they do. The only negative thing I can think of is how strong the brakes are during the midcourse brake run and end course brake run, but they aren't that bad.
My respect to this ride, it seems a bit underestimated. It's definitely a heavy puncher. High escalation, heavy loops and at the end it goes relatively "slow" in circles but I could only see black in my eyes for couple of seconds. Relatively long ride. Loved it.
Thrill seekers should definitely seek out this coaster. The massive drop to start the ride is exhilarating. The smoothness of the track enables you to have a highly enjoyable experience.
