Goolrick's Modern Pharmacy

Step back in history and get a vanilla malt. It's worth it. It's fantastic. I've been going to this place since I was a kid because I love the history of it and the efforts they've made to keep it the corner drugstore. The counter service is great, the staff is always friendly and the food is what you'd expect it to be. It's not a modern restaurant, it's what you would expect of a historic lunch counter. And the menu and food may sound basic, but I've consistently enjoyed what I've gotten over the years. It's very nostalgic and I"m thankful that they keep it that way.

Fantastic milkshakes and friendly staff. The place is the oldest always in business pharmacy and milkshake shop in the nation. It was great to come in and out was nice to see what somewhere like this looked like. Thank you for a good time. I appreciate you asking me for my order or if I wanted a water instead. Thank you.

Soda Fountain Review: Looking over other reviews I'm glad I didn't use them to determine if we should stop in for lunch. We had excellent service, we were waited on quickly and all the staff were very friendly. The menu is small; just a few sandwiches, shakes, malts and floats but what they make is good. We had the Chicken Salad, BLT, Chocolate Malt and Rootbeer Float and loved them all. We'll be back for lunch again! I can understand disappointment if you're wanting something "fancy" but if you're looking for simple, yet good food, and a bit of the nostalgia of an old soda stop in and try them out.

Goolrick’s was established in 1867! They have a lunch counter and a pharmacy that makes compounded medication, as needed. One of two compounding pharmacies in the area. I came here for lunch with friends. We each had a different sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their lunch. The service was excellent. The menu is very basic, but the food was well prepared. Another friend picked up a milkshake here last week and said it was fantastic. Street parking only, which can be a challenge.

2/10/22 How disappointing and what an opportunity. I saw this in Only in Virginia and rode 85 miles for a step back in time. TAKE OUT ONLY!! Styrofoam cup for your shake, egg salad sandwich wrapped in white paper put in a white bag and out you go. Covid things are opening uup but not here, and I was the only person in the place Nice "ice cream" tables but no "the owner says carryout only" It was kinda sad. I don't think they will be there much longer and such an opportunity with so little work. There is no way to rate the food or malt under these conditions. I hope they have better times ahead of them. Things aren't good now.

Cute bit of nostalgia. I think it is a real functioning pharmacy but the snack bar is the tourist attraction.

Great stop for excellent milkshakes and authentic fountain soda. It’s a small spot, so it can get crowded. The staff was really friendly and helpful. They have food but we didn’t eat anything. I enjoyed a banana milkshake which was delicious. We also enjoyed a Vanilla Coke. Stop in when visiting Fredericksburg!

Historically, this place is great. In today's world, not so much unfortunately. If you don't know what you want to order the minute you sit down, then be prepared to not receive service. Other customers who were seated after us received faster service. We actually had to flag a server down. We felt we were being ignored. After waiting for a total of 25 minutes, we were told that they were out of turkey. At 1PM. Choosing to not have any other item mayo galore!, we decided to leave. And were charged for the one soda. If it had been my business, I would have been embarrassed over the lack of service and product, apologized and wrote off the soda. Too many other restaurants in the area to patronize this one.

Great service and good food. Simple sandwiches and old fashioned sodas. Shakes and malts are great too.

Could be so much more than it is currently is but at least they are trying, the chocolate milkshake was ok. The coffee milkshake actually tasted like coffee though, very delicious. Very simple sandwich menu, this place has great potential. Offer more seating and have more window seating. As the items to the menu and this place could dominate the local commercial area. Add a regular burger, a cheeseburger, and plain French fries to the menu.
