Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art

About

The Gordon Smith Gallery, Artists for Kids & the Smith Foundation are working together to build an art education legacy for the children of B.C.

Description

The Gordon Smith Gallery Canadian Art is a space where Artists for Kids & the Smith Foundation collaborate to showcase innovative and world-class exhibitions of contemporary Canadian art and build an art education legacy for the children of B.C.

Essential to all of our exhibitions is our unique approach to curation and programming. We provide spaces for contemporary Canadian art to engage, amaze, and inspire our communities.

We develop and deliver exceptional programming for all our major exhibitions, to connect our audience with the art, beyond the exhibition.

Programming includes panel discussions, artist talks, workshops and performances, family days (every Saturday), and docent tours.

We invite you to visit often.

The Artists for Kids program has been acquiring masterworks from Canada’s leading artists for more than 20 years. The organization purchases art from patron artists for its permanent collection, then sells limited-edition, original prints created by these artists to raise money for the wealth of programs offered.

The acclaimed permanent collection contains nearly 500 works from some of our country’s greatest contemporary artists, including our founding patrons, Gordon Smith, Jack Shadbolt and Bill Reid, as well as Robert Davidson, Angela Grossmann, E.J. Hughes, Kenojuak Ashevak, Rodney Graham, Guido Molinari and Toni Onley. The artists represented in the collection are the essential and primary supporters of Artists for Kids and its distinct hands-on, artist and teacher-led programs.

Great place to visit if you appreciate art. There are many exhibits, some temporary and some permanent. Easy to get to with transit and there's street parking. Check hours of operation before planning a visit. Must see place on the North shore.
This gallery offers the community an opportunity to view works by many of Canada's most highly respected artists. Dedicated to enriching young people, the space is a teaching gallery from October to June. Public hours posted on the website.
It wasn't open when I was there but the outside is beautiful.
Beautiful place to visit if you love art. There are many helpful polite people working there.I also like the building and side walk besides it, so peaceful and lovely.
A gem of a space. Surprisingly it was deserted on a wet Saturday. The attendant was very knowledgeable and friendly. When I visited there was a fantastic First Nations art exhibit.
Beautiful art gallery with nice selection of local First Nations. Offer kids painting programs
