Gouldsboro State Park

Description

Gouldsboro State Park is a 2880acre Pennsylvania state park in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County and Lehigh Township, Wayne County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The park includes the 250acre Gouldsboro Lake. Gouldsboro State Park is located very close to Tobyhanna State Park and Pennsylvania State Game Lands 127 and 312. It is on Pennsylvania Route 507 near the small village of Gouldsboro.HistoryGouldsboro State Park is named for Gouldsboro, which was in turn named for Jay Gould (1836 - 1892). Gould, a native of New York, acquired an immense fortune during the Industrial Revolution, part of which included ownership of ten percent of all the rail tracks in the United States at the time of his death. One of his railroads passed by what is now the eastern boundary of the park. Gould was also the co-owner of a tannery in nearby Thornhurst. Raw hides were shipped from the western United States and Australia on the railroads owned by Gould to Gouldsboro. The hides were then sent to Thornhurst by way of wagons traversing a plank road.

This seems to be a hidden gem because the beach and lake were nearly empty on a very hot, sunny day. The beach and swimming area were huge and the bathroom was clean. The sand is perfect for digging and building. The water is comfortable and the bottom is mostly sandy but it's prone to bacteria and red algae so wear an old or black bathing suit to avoid stains.
Very popular spot. It's a beautiful lake. The swimming area isn't to bad. Most people are friendly. Restrooms: Restrooms were what you expect. Dog-friendliness: Not everyone likes dogs apparently. Some lady was rude to me and my sister even tho my dog was leashed and nowhere near her. Picnic area: Lots of grass to lay a blanket down and eat. There are some tables available, fills up fast.
First time coming here August 2022 we saw a bear eating the trash as soon as we parked that was pretty kool but the beach is nice the sunsets are pretty nice too just a great place to come to visit me my wife 4 kids loved it here it’s really nice
Gouldsboro State Park is adjacent to Tobyhanna State Park. It is a more rustic park than Tobyhanna. It has no running water bathrooms and no camping. What I do like is the picnic table grove near the lake. If you get too much sun, you can sit under the nearby trees. Other features: boat rentals, fishing, trails, mountain biking and seasonal hunting. There's also a boat launch and a new handicap fishing pier see pictures. Great family oriented park for all ages. Great for dog walking, watching wild birds, black bear, wild turkey ect. Trials are for all levels of hikers-make sure to wear correct shoes. Big lake to swim in, kayaking, canoeing, fishing.
Such a clean park with so much to do. I love all the paths through the woods. The beach area is really nice and it's great that they allow swimming. No dogs on the beach or in the water. They have small boats there for rent and a nice wide boat ramp. There's a beautiful pavilion with a nice view of the lake through the trees. Picnic tables and charcoal grills are throughout the park. I will definitely go back to Goldsboro State park and I highly suggest you check it out for yourselves! It's just beautiful!
Great for a family picnic! Boat rental is reasonably priced and the employee was great. The beach is a great place for your kids to play.
Peaceful, clean park with a lake to enjoy kayaking or canoeing. There is also another section with a beach designated for swimming.. There are picnic tables scattered throughout with grills. Bathrooms are basically indoor porta potties, but very clean. Had never been here before, but will definitely be going back.
We were looking for a local public lake with a beach and this was perfect! Great sand beach which has been beautifully combed, only a few other groups of people while we were there, nice grassy area for yard games, frisbee, soccer, etc. There is a roped off shallow swimming area, and we were able to launch our canoe right next to it. They also have canoe rentals available. There were John’s nearby, though we chose to use the ones by the canoe rental area as they were newer and cleaner and didn’t smell as bad. We will definitely return!
Gorgeous, water was warm, only three other cars, wish boat rental was open.
