Graham Oaks Nature Park

Description

Graham Oaks Nature Park is a nature park in Wilsonville in the U.S. state of Oregon. Opened in 2010, the park is owned and operated by Metro, the regional government in the Oregon portion of the Portland metropolitan area.HistoryPrior to designating the land as a nature park, Metro originally planned to build a landfill on the property in the 1980s. Metro then purchased the property in 2001 for $1.6 million from the state. At one time, the state also owned the adjacent land to the north where the Dammasch State Hospital stood, and the land to the west where the Callahan Center was located before becoming the Living Enrichment Center. After buying the land, Metro started planting 150,000 native shrubs and trees on the former farm. Metro also spread an estimated 100 million wildflower and grass seeds and built trails and other amenities prior to the park opening.A preview tour of the park was held in October 2008 at Graham Oaks. In August 2009, the Oregon State Parks & Recreation Commission provided Metro with a $500,000 grant for construction of the park. The next month, JP Contractors won the bid to build the $1.4 million park. Other funding for construction included $300,000 from Wilsonville and about $600,000 from Metro. In November 2009, construction started on park amenities, which were designed by landscape architecture firm GreenWorks.Graham Oaks officially opened to the public in September 2010. In January 2011, Wilsonville's South Metro Area Regional Transit added a stop at the park.

"Three miles of trails let you choose your adventure. Watch for native wildlife such as white-breasted nuthatches, Western bluebirds, orange-crowned warblers and Western gray squirrels. Five plazas make ideal spots to rest, reflect and learn about Graham Oaks’ history, from Kalapuyan tribes who gathered food to the family that farmed the land. Explore beyond the park on the regional Ice Age Tonquin Trail.Typically, dogs and other pets are not allowed at Metro parks and natural areas to protect sensitive habitats. Metro is making an exception by allowing pets on the Ice Age Tonquin Trail at Graham Oaks Pets must be on-leash at all times.Graham Oaks is open from legal sunrise to legal sunset."

Beautiful park to walk, jog or ride your bike. Bikes and dogs are allowed only on main path. Very easy hike with beautiful wild flowers all around. Got to see deer, snake and bald eagle. Some of the trails are shaded and some are not. If you decide to do all trails it’s about 3 miles and it’s very easy. Restrooms: Clean facility Dog-friendliness: Dogs allowed only on main paved trail and on a leash. Picnic area: Covered picnic area at the entrance of the park
A pleasant, non strenuous walk with good parking. It's accessible by car from Wilsonville Road, and by walk from few trail heads in the Villebois neighborhood. A restroom is available at the Wilsonville Road side entry. Dogs are not allowed only on Ice Age Tonquin Trail.
It’s a beautiful nature preserve. We keep visiting this place to walk, bike, jog etc.. Kids love this place Sometimes you can get to see deers, rabbits/hare and different types of birds here. Well maintained restrooms and parking area. There are picnic areas as well. There is Smart bus shelter here… Bus connectivity from the Wilsonville town center is also available. Best time to visit: Spring to Summer to Falls. In Autumn, lots of photographers come here for capturing family photos in the dawn.
Great easy walk for kids and dogs. Coyote Trail does not allow dogs and it's beautiful and neither does the oak sitting center. There are plenty of other beautiful trail for walking dogs. In the winter their are beautiful bright red berry's, red barked bushes, and mint green moss. I'm sure no matter what season I go it will be beautiful.
Easy trail to take children. Elementary school is right next door, so you can walk to the playground. There is little shade, so bring water if the sun is out. Bathrooms are at the parking lot which is nice. Would be a great place to ride bikes with the long trails. The main trail allows dogs but the smaller trails that branch off says no dogs allowed. Overall a nice serene walk with the kids.
A nice park with paved trails great for biking, walking, jogging, etc. clean bathrooms and a good amount of parking available. The picnic areas are closed as expected. Right off wilsonville rd where you could also park. Now during Spring there’s lots of beautiful wild flowers everywhere. It backs into the school playground area if you have kids that may want to play. My kids love to ride their bikes here. We will continue to come.
A beautiful place to walk, near the heart of Wilsonville. See the hummingbirds and the red-tailed hawks. Leashed dogs are allowed on the main trails, but not the unpaved trails.
We love visiting this location! Not a place you go to hike, but instead, to walk through a beautiful wooded area that seems to come out of nowhere. The path is paved through the grassy portions, but is gravel through the woods. It is fairly flat and many people ride bikes, skate, walk, or run here. It is truly a lovely place to visit. I have taken family and senior portraits here, although it is not the easiest with many pedestrians and the lighting is harder to work with. For getting outside, though, it is a gorgeous spot and the trails are fairly easy.
A beautiful nature preserve on the edge of town. Great for biking, walking, rollerblading, and running. Lots of trails to explore FYI: not all trails allow pets Fantastic place for photographers. There is a picnic area, nicely maintained parking lot and restrooms. Petowners Please Note: there is very little to no shade along the walking trails. Use caution when walking your pets, the ground is paved and gets very hot!
This is a wonderful park with two different kinds of trails. There is a paved trail that loops back and forth through the park that is accessible for bikes, dogs, and other pedestrian traffic. There are also gravel trails that are for walking and running only. It is a beautiful park and great place to stretch your legs.
