What a great experience! Traveled coach north and south and it was comfortable and clean. The entertainment was great and still left plenty of time to just enjoy the ride and views. The Grand Canyon at the South Rim was spectacular and there is a lot available at the South Rim as far as accommodations. The train ride back was super fun as we got "robbed" by the cowboys who stop the train. Easy to get on and off the train, friendly staff and beautiful views! Definitely worth doing again. Plus major bonus, going on Earth Day it had the steam engine and there were no park entrance fees!
Rode the Grand Canyon Railway from Williams, Arizona to the Grand Canyon and back in late June 2023. Fun, car free way to get to and from the majestic Grand Canyon's South Rim. Refreshments and entertainment are available onboard.
We had a lot of fun taking the train to the Grand Canyon. Train is a bit outdated, but the staff make it a fun experience. The snacks they serve are underwhelming. We took the Verde Canyon train tour 8 months ago and were spoiled with their charcuterie meal that was included with our ticket purchase. The one with Grand Canyon Railway was a buffet style and cheap, to be honest. The crew really make it a great experience so just bring your own snacks.
What a great way to visit the Grand Canyon! We've been many times in the past, but wanted a different experience. The Grand Canyon Railway did not disappoint. Upgrade to first class if you can, very comfortable seats and great service! The free snacks, beverages and optional alcoholic beverages, for an extra cost, were great!! The wild West show prior to boarding was entertaining as well. Entertainment on board was fun as well. Bring some $$ for tips!
Love taking this trip. It's our second time, and it never gets old riding the train. Much better then driving to Grand Canion then finding a place to park. This way you can relax and enjoy the view. Each train car has a host that tells you about things on the way.
Great train journey into the Grand Canyon, especially if you don't have much time and can only spend one day there. Expensive but fun.
All I can say it that it was a really nice Ride. A leisurely ride to the Canyon with a lot of scenery changes. The Staff from Depot to Rail Car was great. I had 2 Floridian Grandchildren with me. Now I have to do the same for the other 7. Williams is also a Nice place. Enjoy.
Made a last minute decision to take the train from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Happily they had coach class tickets available. The 2 hour ride was relaxing and fun. We had a tour guide who gave us the history of the train and told lots of "dad" jokes. We had musicians entertaining us up and back. The train was "robbed" on the way back to Williams which was hilarious. We spotted several animals - bunnies, prong horn antelope, wild horses, cows, and deer. A photographer comes through on the way up - there is no pressure to have a photo taken. The sears are comfortable; cold water is available in each car, but there is a cafe car. You are allowed to bring your snacks. Be aware that the train is very prompt so arrive early. As they reminded us, the difference between a passenger and hitchhiker is one minute.
Great way to get to see the canyon first hand without driving/sitting in long lines to get into or out, but the 3 hours is adequate to see some but not all of the canyon unless you add a bus tour once you arrive. Each train car has a guide and Sharon was ours and told some great stories with such a great personality and helpful to everyone. The kids loved the train robbery and it's a great way to see and hear some history instead of driving IMHO
My husband wanted to take his mom to the Grand Canyon which is no easy feat because she's in a wheelchair and has health issues. But the staff went out of their way to help make it as comfortable & stress-free as they could. So my husband, his mom and his other 4 siblings plus myself and another daughter-in-law were able to take her with as little trouble as possible. She had a great day and we appreciate the friendliness & help of the staff the helped make it possible!
