Freemasonry is often described as the world’s oldest and largest fraternity. Though there are artifacts that date back to the 1300’s, the structured and well documented form that exists today was established in 1717 c.e. in London, England. With Lodges all over the world, Freemasonry spans the boundaries imposed by societies.
Freemasonry's singular purpose is to make good men better and its bonds of friendship, truth and brotherly love have survived even the most divisive political, military and religious conflicts through the centuries.
Though there is a requirement for belief in a Supreme Being, Freemasonry is neither a forum for nor a place of worship. It is not a religion, but rather teaches moral (secular) philosophy through activity. For nearly three hundred years it has attracted men of high moral character who support the tenets of temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.
The Freemasons of New Mexico shall endeavor to conduct themselves according to the tenets, virtues and values of Freemasonry, and offer those teachings to men of good moral character through membership, to raise the moral, social, intellectual, and spiritual conscience of society.
Making Good Men Better.
"The Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free And Accepted Masons of New Mexico is the oldest and largest regular Masonic Grand Lodge in the State of New Mexico. It was founded on August 7th, 1877 in Santa Fe, NM. The Grand Lodge of New Mexico descends directly from the Grand Lodge of Missouri, and elected to remain an “Ancient” Masonic jurisdiction, in deference to that Mother Grand Lodge. The Masonic designation styled as “Ancient” for the Grand Lodge of New Mexico is derived from its lineage tracing back to the Grand Lodge of North Carolina via the Grand Lodges of Missouri and Tennessee, which was founded as a Grand Lodge of Ancient York Masons in 1787."
