Granite Hills High School

Description

Granite Hills High School is a California Distinguished School, public and comprehensive high school located in El Cajon, California and serves students in grades nine through twelve. Opened in 1960, Granite Hills is one of thirteen high schools in the Grossmont Union High School District. GHHS is the home of the Eagles. Granite Hills High School has been an IB World School since July 2001.HistoryRecently Granite Hills has been undergoing some construction to many of its classes. The football field has also been renovated. It was discovered that Granite's soil contains a large amount of carcinogens. As of January, 2009, studies were in progress and the source of contamination was unknown. Tainted dirt has also been found at other schools in the district. In January 2009 the long time eagle statue, "Ernie", was ripped off of its base by vandals and destroyed.Granite Hills Marching BandThe students in the GHHS Marching Band perform at the Mother Goose Parade, Christmas in the lights, Alpine Parade, and at every home football game especially the Homecoming game. The marching Eagles also go to "Band Night" featuring the SDSU Marching Aztecs and gathering other marching bands from the GUHSD District. Popular tunes such as the "007 Theme" and "Bon Jovi Theme" highlight the "GUHSD Marching Band and Color Guard Field Show Extravaganza" held every year. During second semester they do winter and spring concerts as the "Concert Band". Some are joint concerts with middle schools from Cajon Valley School District.ShootingDuring fifth period, minutes after lunch period had ended on March 22, 2001, 18-year-old Former GHHS Student, Jason Hoffman arrived on campus and opened fire on the attendance office, which also houses the principal and vice principals' offices, from the outside. Five people were either injured by shrapnel or suffered severe symptoms from the traumatic experience but few victims incurred bullet wounds. Hoffman was shot in the buttocks and jaw. He was arrested by police officer Rich Agundez, who had been on campus during school hours since the shooting two weeks earlier at a high school within the same district, Santana High School. Hoffman would later commit suicide by hanging himself from bedsheets in his prison cell in November 2002.

Great school but also beautiful. Administration, Staff, and Teachers are wonderful, understanding but also strict. This is my son's second year at Granite Hills and it has been great already. This School offered my son AP courses; as well as, Honors and College Prep during his Freshman and Sophomore year. Band was wonderful also it kept my son busy performing throughout last year. Can't wait for his Junior and Senior year. Go Eagles!
My son has attended Granite Hills High School for 4 years. He loves it. I personally feel that this is the best high school in East County. The teachers and staff at Granite are the best. I. would highly reccommend sending your child to Granite. My son is a senior this year and is sad that this is his last year at this awesome school.
I would have put more stars if they had not messed up this year. The last two years were great, but I'm kind of glad that I may be leaving at the end of the 2016-2017 year Though I've had many great friends. The school decided to lay off the previous counselors or the previous ones resigned. Either way in the end, most of the schedules my friends had were messed up completely, as was mine as well. But my main problem is for the juniors. I'd think that they'd have several problems with schedule change I being one as well, because we literally have no more classrooms to accommodate the juniors and possibly some other grades. This whole school year by far has been very stressful and terrifying, and I fear that my grades will drop because of this mess. I hope that they'll be able to fix this come second semester. Sorry for the pressure Granite, you're a pretty cool school at the end of each day.
I went to granite 2009 to 2013 The first 3 year were good my last year was hard do to bully but the school try there best to help even when I was getting trouble a lot they didn’t kicked me out of school They keep me in school with stuff I did that bad istens of having cops arrested they didn’t. The swim program is very good I like how caring the head coach’s are even when I was getting trouble and getting bully they still let swim at meets They try to help with bully problem
I'm going on my 4th year and I love it. Yes there are some unbearable teachers and students but all shool have them. If you get involved and be social you will find your niche and love it! People talking about teachers being racist aren't true .
I was only there for 2 months and it was the worst 2 months ever the principle is racist so are most of the teachers there and the people in the front office are rude and disrespectful... Chaparral has a bad reputation but the teachers are awesome they're helpful and honestly chap is a better school than granite by far
I went to that High school , for a year about all I could handle .Most ofvthe teachers there were , maybe disrespectful to students. You had a good few ! That made it bearable. Luckily I moved on to a better scool. HELIX HIGH SCHOOL !!!!!!! THAT WSS A GOID SCHOOL.
The schools academic program is very bad they don't offer AP classes in freshman year like El Cap I would not put my child in this school for a better education check out El cap
I have enjoyed it and it is an amazing school! The students are all about school spirit and are amazing people.
I graduate from Granite Hills High School, back in 1983, let me tell you it was the best and fun I ever have!!!
