Grants Pass High School

Description

Grants Pass High School is a public high school located in Grants Pass, Oregon, United States. The school colors are blue and white, and the mascot is the Caveman. The mascot is a reference to the Oregon Caves National Monument, which is an important tourist attraction in nearby Cave Junction, Oregon.HistoryGrants Pass High School was originally built in 1885, in a wooden building located at Fourth and C Streets. The first graduating class was in 1888. Around 1911 a new building was built at the center of the present campus on Olive Street, between 8th and 9th Streets. In 1939, North Junior High School was built next door. Various other additions to the campus occurred between 1948 and 1969, including expansions to the central building as well as numerous satellite buildings. When North Junior High School was relocated, its old campus became the English Building. In 1988, a fire destroyed the grandstands on Mel-Ingram Field and damaged the large gym. The grandstands were replaced in 1989 on the west side of the field. In 1998, the entire campus was demolished and re-constructed. The facility is now a state-of-the-art high school, complete with a performing arts center which is also used as a convention center and theater for the community. The campus is spread over approximately 47acre of land in downtown Grants Pass; the new facility was constructed to house approximately 1800 students. The school's marching band, under the direction of Jason Garcia, was named the 2010 NWAPA champions for their production "Traffic". The Marching Band and Auxiliary performed in the 2010 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade by invitation on November 25, 2010, and were viewed by tens of millions of people.

As a student, it is a very great school if your looking for athletics, out of school clubs or activities, and it is great food choices wise, and learning wise. there is a lot of classes of all kinds to pick from, from welding to first Aid. The only down fall is it is getting crowded, especially at lunch when someone at the end of the lines may have to wait up to 15 minutes just to get lunch, but other than that, i have to say one of the best high schools in Oregon. Plus Very nice campus with a really nice open feel to it.
Class of 2004. This school offered a lot more in education and extracurricular activities than most others I have seen. Plus, you don't see too many high schools designed similar to college campuses. There is a lot of opportunities that thoughtful students can take advantage of. It will not be perfect and not everyone will like all teachers or faculty, but this experience is going to become what you make of it. You'll love it or hate it. And if mommy and daddy are forcing you to go or are too poor to afford an alternative, suck it up, cause this is still one of the better schools for your education.
Check it out, school made me hate school. I couldn't stand college because it was a poor rehash of high school. Beurocracy has ruined school experiences for kids. Although this school was no different, it offered extensive extracurricular activities and gave me what I needed to grit my teeth through high school. While most staff are just tenured geezers, there are some amazing folks, like the coucilor Ben Coulter. In all it's probably the best you can get from a school.
Front office ladies almost always act like you are bothering them if you have to come in for your child. Don't see them smile, not very pleasant. The lady that works the back desk for the students is downright rude! The kids that I know that go here hate it, most of the teachers and staff. Not right at all
I was not impressed when I was a student there. However, it really has become one of the best schools in Southern Oregon, if not the State.
This school is the worse they tried kicking me out for missing one day of school.Be carful transfer students they will try to send you to gladiola because there's too many kids at this school. The councilors make it seem like its all your fault and they will put you down.Overall I would not suggest this school for anyone.
Awesome classes and amazing campus. I definitely want my kids to go here!
Most of the staff act like they don't care about their students. Their state funding for high GPAs is the only thing that matters.
They won't let me go to one of their dances with my best friend because I am an "outside student".
This is the best school ever because my big sister Alexis goes to this school
