The Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department has been providing fire suppression and emergency medical services to the citizens of Tom Green County, since April 15, 1972. What started out as a fire brigade of a few farmers and ranchers; has evolved into an established volunteer fire department, with over 40 active volunteer emergency responders, 6 operating emergency response vehicles, and a fire station funded and constructed solely by the volunteer firefighters and fellow community members.
The Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department is nestled in the unincorporated community of Grape Creek, 10 miles north of San Angelo. In regards to population, Grape Creek is the largest community in Tom Green County, with an estimated population of 12,000 (source: Tom Green Sheriff’s office). The Grape Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a recognized and licensed EMS First Responder Organization through the Texas Department of State Health Services, averages 240 emergency calls per year in its immediate fire response jurisdiction of 210 square miles.
