I am a marine ecologist with 30 years experience working in sustainable, environmentally sound molluscan aquaculture. Grassy Bar was founded in 2009 when I "bought the farm" and got beached on the back bay with a bevy of bivalves. Much to my relief my son Charles came to help me, and to share my passion to coax our beds to flourish with the succulent shellfish.
It is a huge blessing to get the opportunity to be caretaker of one of California's few and wonderful oyster beds. We want to show our gratitude by being stewards and watchdogs of the estuary's environmental quality, by being good neighbors to all who enjoy the estuary, and by providing the community with locally produced shellfish of the highest quality.
Our pacific oysters are planted, tended, sorted, and packed all by hand and rushed to nearby markets, resulting in oysters of the highest standards of freshness, taste and beauty.
