Great Esker Park

Description

Great Esker Park consists mostly of a geological formation known as an esker (a winding ridge of stratified sand and gravel) formed by a glacier 12,000 years ago. It is along the Weymouth Back River in Weymouth and across the river from Bare Cove Park in Hingham. The park features the highest esker in North America (90 ft), reversing falls, salt marshes, six miles (10 km) of trails, a playground and picnic area. Bird watching is a popular activity as osprey, great blue heron, red-tailed hawks, owls, and other species of birds are abundant seasonally. There are man-made shelters on the river where Osprey nest in the spring and summer months. In the summer months the park is used by Wey-Rec for children's programs. The main parking area is located at the end of Elva Road with additional parking off of Bridge Street (3A) and Puritan Road.

It's a beautiful place to walk, when the tide is out. Really wish they would clean up the trash from the kids or make a more formal program. This place has hills with rocks. Sometimes more people during the afternoons and animal control is common. There are many opportunities to turn around and pick the difficulty of your walk. Hope this helps. Dog-friendliness: On leash, common to see animal control.
First time here and it was great adventure. I did my bike ride in the morning, not a lot of people and path is moderate. I recommend and I will visit again.
Lots of shade some good inclines. Has paved and dirt paths. Some benches no bathrooms. No lights. About six parking spots off Bridge St
So Beautiful. There are paved roads and a little challenging wooded paths. Pretty hilly which gives you an awesome workout.
The best place to go for a walk or hiking; paved roads and plenty of trails. Hang out on the water's edge, skip rocks. Go fishing... Kayaking... and meet new and old friends.
It was very beautiful and relaxing but there is a worrisome sewage smell in the water bed area as well as a good amount of trash scattered that the state should be aware of.
Second time here, I went twice as far. Hills may kick your butt, as they did mine. Views amazing!
I have always loved walking this park.
One-of-a-kind Hidden Gem with stunning views. This is not a flat Trail there are lots of steep hills and is even more challenging in the winter time with the snow on the ground. Great place to go snowshoeing if you're up for a challenge.
Took these with my DJI MAVIC AIR 2 from Best Buy
