Greek Taverna

Yesterday we ventured out for the first time since the pandemic. We visited the Greek Taverna. It was as expected a slow night for them. We were greeted immediately by the person in charge who had a Mask on his face which made us very comfortable. It was a rainy weather so we could not sit outside but social distancing was practiced inside so we were fine. The waitress, who was also wearing a mask, was very friendly and explained the specials for the day. We ordered the following for our appetizers Grape leaves, tasty but a bit sweet for my taste, Haloomy delicious with grilled tomatoes, and Spanakopita fresh, crispy and to die for. We love Greek food so we had a challenge to order, finally decided, with leftover for tomorrow in mind, to order 6 entrees, the waitress was a bit chocked by our order and confirmed a couple of times, understandably. Trout well cooked a bit too lemony, and I love lemon, had a bit of bones, loved it and loved the baked potatoes on the side. As a side sautéed Green Beans, which was the veggie of the day as all entrees got it, well cooked and delicious. Katapoula Agginares Boneless Chicken breast sautéed with artichoke, awesome taste and tasted exactly as described in the menu Garides Nafplian Sautéed Shrimp with tomatoes my wife enjoyed very much Paidakai Lamb Chops Cooked to perfection Pastitsio a baked layered pasta with ground beef and béchamel sauce. I cook an Egyptian version of this dish and wanted to compare, I am sorry but my version wins, but I still enjoyed a taste of it, and will have the leftover for lunch today. Moussaka well you can’t go to a Greek restaurant and not have Moussaka. Well done, held itself very good the taste was a it sweet to my taste. But will enjoy leftover for lunch today The owner bought us dessert, which was very nice of him. Finally I definitely would recommend The Greek Taverna if you like Greek food but expect a higher than average check, good food cost money. I added some pictures for enjoyment

We have ordered takeout since March 2020. The food is consistently very good and we love the house salad and bread, too, not to mention the complimentary baklava which has unexpectedly appeared! This is an authentic family restaurant offering great Greek dishes, and we so hope it makes it through Covid because we look forward to dining inside or outside soon again.

What a cozy place, warm welcome and absolutely amazing food! Our experience was wonderful! We'll definitely stop by again every time we're in DC. The flan is outstanding... I got seconds!!! The owner is a sweetheart, the staff is so welcoming and the the cooking skills is really impressive. Love it. Recommend it.

Empty, sadly. Very clean. Family run joint is the best for Greeks. Like a trattoria, the owner will come and chat with you about the specials that day. Menus of course are avaliable but who wants to order off a menu? I want to be told what to eat by the person who put the TLC into what's on my plate, headed for my belly. Special care, great service, amazing slow roasted lamb that melted as your fork sides into it. We were the only table in the large joint but it felt like a warm socially distanced party as servers, cook, and owner were happy to join in singing and laughing as we dined.

I was there today with a large group and we were served efficiently and very quickly so we could all eat at the same time. I and all the others sitting around me loved every course we were served. I enjoyed the foccacia, zucchini appetizer, grilled salmon with well-seasoned green beans with small chunks of tomato and buttered steamed potatoes and baklava dessert. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family.

Outstanding quality and service. Returned to this cozy corner for a scrumptious lunch. The owners were very friendly and hospitable. We ordered the special of the day which was a swordfish combo. The food was excellent and the ambiance was too. Will definitely return.

The Greek Taverna is one of my all time favorite restaurants. The food is spectacular and melt-in-your-mouth Greek and the warmth and sincerity of the hospitality is second to none. Highly recommend the swordfish though I've never ordered something I didn't love. Truly special!

The food at the Greek Taverna is AMAZING. Best lamb I have ever tasted, excellent chicken kabobs and salmon. The spices in all three appetizers grape leaves, hummus and fried zucchini were perfect. I will definitely go back again and again. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very nice and the food is just amazing.

You feel the warmth and care that owners alone can give when you eat here. The food was delicious and the servers felt like they cared more about making you happy than they did about their closing time. I came here 2x already, and if I lived in the area, it would be a go-to place for us.

My family has always enjoyed dining at the Greek Taverna. The food is fresh, the fish is delicious and the lamb dishes are wonderful. The wait staff is courteous and efficient. It’s a great place for dining in McLean. The patio is wonderful in the summer.
