Green Meadow is the first -- and only -- green cemetery in the greater Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania.
Situated in historic Fountain Hill Cemetery, Green Meadow is a quarter-acre meadow of native wildflowers and grasses where the dead are laid to rest in vaultless graves, in caskets made from readily-biodegradable materials like pine, wicker, or cardboard. Graves are marked with indigenous fieldstone.
Embalming is banned, metal caskets and vaults are prohibited.
The goal: the allow the dissolution of one's remains, to rejoin the body to the natural cycle of life, to return dust to dust.
