Alum Hollow Trail will lead you to Alum Cave, a rock shelter used during the Middle Woodland period 1AD – 500AD. This preserve includes a variety of interesting natural and historic features to enjoy as well as approximately five miles of hiking trails to explore. Trails vary from easy to difficult. Trails were fine, but my SIL’s van was broken into while we were hiking. We saw a lot of broken glass around the parking lot, so be sure to leave valuables out of sight.
Alum Hollow was absolutely beautiful. I thought the trail went past the cave so it was a little more difficult than planned overall took me about two hours. Not a lot of people.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
Great trails, you can choose to stick to the easy flatter trails or venture down into the valley. There are multiple streams with picturesque waterfalls so don't forget your camera!!! We did a quick hike for our first time, but we plan on returning soon to try some of the more difficult trails. It's getting warm out so don't forget to hydrate and watch for snakes!!!
We hiked the Alum Hollow Trail at the Green Mountain Nature Preserve with our two dogs. It was a great trail and was pretty easy. We are glad we wore our hiking boots as the trail had some rocky terrain. The trail provided a beautiful view of the waterfall and had a few water streams to view on the hike as well. The trail was very clean and well maintained and marked. We hiked about 2.2 miles total on the there and back trip. This is definitely a great trail in the area.
Great trails, love that they're fixing it up more and more, been going here for 5 years or so now, always drop my spare change in the donation bucket.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree
17nov2021 ~07:45 - 09:30, ~50s - 60s_F, Abby, Swee and me had a very enjoyable and fun ~3.3 miles hike: CW-Loop Alum Hollow TH > West Plateau Trail > East Plateau Trail > Alum Hollow TH. Up till Elevation ~1000 ft, the Trails were mostly dry and in good condition. The Trails were reasonably well-maintained, well-signed and the Trail Blazes were especially helpful when traversing those sections that were covered by fallen leaves. ~08:30 while leavlng Alum Cave, we had our first sighting of people - 2 women passing by on the "upper" Alum Hollow Trail. We didn't see any one else until we got back to the Trailhead parking where 4 vehicles had arrived and parked. Thank y'all Land Trust of N ALABAMA
Great trails but parking lot is not secure. Window was shattered and vehicle was broken into in the middle of the afternoon. Counted seven spots in the small lot with evidence of broken glass.
Beautiful scenery. There are several new trails here that are not on AllTrails yet. Currently, there are small temporary plastic flags marking the trails - we saw that several of these had fallen off the trees and were littering the forest. I hope soon that they either switch to painted trail blazes or more permanently attached plastic signs to prevent this issue.
Beautiful place to hike but get there early bc the parking lot fills up fast!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
New trail - careful, still getting worked on in sections - is beautiful way up into the mountain. Especially in spring with redbuds. It goes up, plateaus for a half mile maybe, then I stopped - appears to go up again. Does it come out on top? I don't know
