At GreenPorch we deliver organic groceries year round. Our boxes are fully customizable, there is no delivery charge, and we have a 100% quality guarantee. We source our products as local as possible in season. We are significantly fresher and also cost less than the grocery store, as we do not have the waste or overhead of a storefront. Delivery Hours
We try to deliver when people are home. So our window is from 3pm-9:00pm on Wednesday evenings. We will always try to ring the doorbell and get you at the door. If you are not available, we will leave the box in a shaded safe area (you are able to stipulate where in your account setup). If you are in a condo or apartment and need special assistance, let us know, or fill out the details on your signup form. Rest assured that the boxes are guaranteed, so if worst case scenario something happens to the box we will take care of the cost for you.
Customizations
Our customization window available to you at no extra cost and is open from Friday evening until Sunday evening at 10:00 pm. We will email you a list of anticipated contents and with a few simple clicks, you can change the composition of your box to perfectly suit your needs or preferences for the week. We also recognize that there are some conditions that are unlikely to change - like allergies and food preferences - and for that reason, you can also set a list of 5 'exclusions' - items you never want to receive - and we'll ensure these foods never make it into your box.
Quality
We are fortunate to have such great relationships with our farmers that our food comes in to us in the morning and is delivered to you the exact same day. So while you might find organic food there’s anything in your box that you’re not satisfied with, we’ll credit you with no questions asked...at the grocery store has been sitting on the shelf for awhile, our produce is extremely fresh because we deliver it to you the same day we receive it. If for some reason you are not fully satisfied with your order, let us know! We want to make it right.
Product Availability
Most customers appreciate the enormous variety of organic produce that we offer, week to week. Our service is highly customizable, and a lot of our produce is difficult to come by in anything but the most well-stocked organic grocers. Also, we deliver fresh to your door, every week, with absolutely no delivery charge.
Whats in a box?
The contents of each delivery vary week to week, depending on what is fresh and in season.
Generally, our mixed boxes will contain approximately 2/3 vegetables, 1/3 fruit, but also offer, just fruit and just vegetable boxes, and we are adding juicing boxes. We keep the contents of each delivery interesting, varied and usable, while ensuring you get the absolute best value possible. Every delivery can also be fully customized at no extra charge, so "more of this, less of that, add a couple of those..." is only ever a click away. The cost ranges from $30.99 - $60.99 depending on the box size and type.
Where does the food come from?
The GreenPorch purchasing mandate places a strong emphasis on sourcing from small and mid scale growers and producers, located as close to you as possible. Our program ensures that wherever possible, product is sourced regionally in order to support local economies. Though we seek, wherever possible, to reduce the footprint of all of our activities and to reduce the number of miles traveled, farm-to-fork.
As any Canuck knows, the availability of local produce In Canada is heavily seasonal. For this reason, we choose to support our local contents with imported product where necessary, with a greater presence of non-local items through the winter and spring. Except where extremely limited alternatives exists (kiwis, for example), we do not purchase food from outside of the Americas. Due to concerns about growing, handling, and shipping practices, we do not purchase any food from China.
When we do import product, its travel is offset through our participation in the CarbonFund. As this question is related directly to the conversation about local food versus organic, we'd like to offer some additional insight. It is important to understand that the transportation of food from producers to end consumers accounts for 4% of the total greenhouse gas emissions related food production. GHG emissions associated with food are dominated by the production phase, contributing 83% of the average household’s footprint for food consumption. Transportation as a whole accounts only for 11% of life-cycle GHG emissions. For this reason, it is generally more important to consider how food is produced over where it is produced.
Can I Cancel?
You can cancel your service at any time, though we'll fight to the bitter end to make you so happy you can't imagine life without us. Our system offers user account features which allow you to make changes to your account anytime with the a few keystrokes and a click of the mouse. Pause for vacations, update preferences and address details, modify your next order or cancel the service altogether. If you prefer to call or email your account changes, we're happy to assist.
