Description

The Green River Rendezvous Pageant is an outdoor theatrical rendition of the historical and cultural accounts of the Green River Valley near Pinedale, Wyo. It is held on the 2nd Sunday in July at 1:00pm at the Pinedale Rodeo Grounds. The 82-year old tradition enlightens attendants of the rich history of Sublette County. The Rendezvous attracts residents and tourists alike because of its authentic and accurate dramatization of historical events.
The Green River Rendezvous Pageant is a commemoration of the Native Americans, trappers and suppliers who congregated in the valley of the Green to prepare themselves for the upcoming long winter. Trappers such as Jim Bridger and William Sublette, whose names this county preserves, attended the Green River Rendezvous. It is important to this community not only to remember their names, but also to honor them by reenacting the life they led. Trappers and Native Americans were not the only people who congregated on the Green. The 1837 Rendezvous hosted over 3,000 Native Americans and more than 200 white people from all over the West. The first white women missionaries to cross the continental divide attended the Rendezvous. Only 16 Rendezvous were held during the height of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade. Of those, 6 were located in the Green River Valley. The Green River Rendezvous Pageant is a tribute to all those who contributed to the rich history of the Green River Valley.
There are more than 35 main characters and over 100 volunteers who re-live the history of the Rendezvous for an average of 800 spectators each year. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate in this annual commemoration. Tourists all over the country recognize Sublette County for hosting the Pageant, which is an integral part of the Rendezvous tradition. Many people look forward to spending time learning about and participating in local history.
