Description

The Green Swamp is a swamp that lies in Brunswick and Columbus counties in North Carolina. The 15,907-acre swamp was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1974. The carnivorous plant known as the Venus Flytrap is found within this swamp, and it is important for other unique and endangered species. North Carolina laws prohibit the removal of these plants from their habitat. The wetlands support a rich ecology and are important as habitat along the Atlantic Flyway of migrating birds and other species.The Nature Conservancy manages of the swamp as the Green Swamp Preserve.Green Swamp, North Carolina is the current tribal homeland of the state-recognized Waccamaw Siouan tribe of Native Americans; one of eight in the state.

A beautiful little walk that thrills you once wending through the forest-like path opening to fields where you are surprised at every turn discovering something new and stunning. Def. consider some bug spray as those carnivorous plants don't get them all and the Brunswick bird mosquito is bigger than any I've seen. Easy walk. Entrance isn't really marked off the road so pay attention to gps.
Amazing hike with great nature views of the tall pine trees and the Venus Fly Traps in all their wonder and loveliness were in bloom or starting to bloom. There are no signs indicating where the entrance is located so make sure to use GPS to get there. Nice walking trail. Saw many venus flytraps but no pitcher plants. Make sure to bring insect repellent.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitPrice for adult entryFree

Phenomenal. Many pictures. PLEASE stay on the paths so that these precious and incredible plants are preserved. I am not sure if people realize what a wonderful and to be protected place this is Playground: No playground.

Came in late October, absolutely beautiful weather could not have been more perfect. Keep an eye out for the red diamonds on the trees that lead the way, the carnivorous plants are very small and low to the ground there are many of them but a little difficult to see at first.
Very beautiful and unique preserve. The Venus fly traps and pitcher plants are there in abundance. It's very cool to see them in the wild. It's a very different environment with the tall pines and grasses and ferns carpeting the forest floor. If it has rained recently, be prepared to either get your feet wet or wear rubber boots.
This is a botanists’ and ornithologists’ delight! The most magnificent long needled pine trees reach to the sky; diverse populations of carnivorous plants and native orchids dapple the grounds. And the birds produce a cacophony of song. They are closed now for a rebuild of their boardwalk. I can’t wait.
Nice easy walk. Highlight is the csrnivouse plants
