Beautiful park with a man made beach in the middle. Crystal clear lake with well maintained facilities. Good place for kids to play or have a family gathering. There is a campground and a picnic area too. Perfect for evenings. Could be a bit crowded on weekends though, better visit on weekdays. Overall a good park to spend the evening by the beach!
A beautiful man made beach and park. The beach water is clear, good for fishing, camping, birthdays and family gathering. It has a small trail and beautiful. Weekdays is less people and more quiet time enjoying the park if you want to be alone. It has a good parking lot nearby and restroom. They have a small store for camping, food and stuff but it was closed when we visit there, maybe it will open in summer.
This campground was fantastic! I've never seen such a well maintained campground! The hosts of each loop leaf blow, rake and clean out the fire pit after each camper leaves, every time. The bath houses were neat and clean. And everything was in perfect working condition. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday in mid September, and the Cedar loop only loop with electric hookups was about 1/4 full. All the other loops were nearly empty. When you pull in to register, they give you a code to get through the gate into the campground area. I believe the code changes every day, to keep the day use people that are just visiting the lake out of the campground. They have wood for sale for $6 per bundle and also carry a few necessity dry goods like aluminum foil. The facility at the lake area is huge, and can easily accommodate over 100 vehicles, but since we visited in the off season during the week, we never saw more than a dozen people by the lake. I would imagine it's quite busy in the summer. Also, we had full 5G cell phone service the entire time. 10 out of 10! We will definitely be back!
Worth every single moment! This is the perfect place for a date, a birthday party, hiking, group activities, or just some peaceful, reflective time to be in a clean and beautiful place. This entire park is incredibly well maintained from the trails to the campsites, from the lake to all of the eating and event areas. My four-year-old son, speaking the wisdom of the ages, as we hiked on the trails and sat looking at the lake told me, "this is a beautiful and peaceful place, I feel so calm here." With the world we are facing right now, this is the place you want to come to to get away and just spend time taking care of yourself, or celebrating be with family and friends. Absolutely beautiful. I will let the pictures speak for themselves.
We camped at Greenbrier State Park in June 2022 in site 31 in the Ash loop. Things we liked about this park: campsites are very clean and flat. They are fine gravel, the camp hosts even rake the sites flat between guests. The sites look small initially, but it was very adequate for our 13x 13 tent and plenty of room around everything on the site.. There was a nice space between us and the next site on one side, and no other campsite next to us on the other side or behind us. Walking the loop was easy, walking to the other loops was a slight uphill workout. We had room and trees for our hammocks, bath house was a short walk away on the road or thru the woods. The bath house was dated, but very clean and had hot water. We walked to the beach and swam in the lake which had very clear water, you could see big and little fish swimming by. The lake is small and you can rent paddle boats. We hiked to Annapolis Rocks, kind of too far for us on our first hike of the year, but it was still a nice hike, lots of steps, and a great view. We have no reason not to camp there in the future.
Stayed here for the first time with a few friends and had a great time. Campsites have a decent amount of space between them so you probably don't need to worry about privacy. You're not alone in the woods by any means but you're not right on top of one another which is nice. Campground is well maintained. All sites have nice fire pits with grates on top for cooking with adjustable height for temperature control. We stayed in the Ash loop but imagine all the rest of the campsites are most the same. I believe the park has firewood for purchase at the ranger'a office if you didn't bring your own and don't want to collect your own. There is a trail that leads to the lake which is really nice. Price is 30 bucks for night. I don't know how expensive it is for multiple nights while on the more expensive side of campsites, you get what you pay for and that is a well-maintained campsite with decent privacy, bathrooms, utility sink with garbage disposal and beautiful scenery. Highly recommend! Restrooms: They have fairly nice restrooms. Nothing fancy as this is a campground but they're good.
Amazing during the week, but way overcrowded on the weekends. The water is clean and perfect for young kids. The sand area is small but there is ample grass to set up a blanket or chairs on as well. On the weekends, cars will start lining up at the entrance hours before the park opens. We arrived at 8am and spent over an hour in line to enter the park. There has to be a better way to deal with the traffic and volume of visitors…. Tent camping at the campground was a breeze. We stayed in the Birch loop. The sites were clean and everyone was friendly. I wish the sites were spread just a bit further apart for more privacy, but we also loved being close enough to the lake to walk the camp trails to the beach area.
First time here on a Friday in summer and it’s not crowded but not empty. There is lots of shade lots of picnic tables. Plenty of parking along the two beach sections. The grills are next to the picnic tables for convenience. The only problem is you have to bring your own trash receptacle because they do not have trash cans, which is actually good. The water is clean and two roped sections one shallow and the other a little deeper. We will be coming back again.
We did our first camping trip with our granddaughters. Stayed in Cedar loop which has electric and allow dogs. The camp sites are well layout/spaced and maintained. The campsite pad are very level for a campground that on a mountain. Keep in mind unless your in the beach area you will be either going up or down hills. The restrooms are outdated but clean and there was plenty of hot water for showering.
Very nice clean Maryland State park on South Mountain. Crystal clear lake with a sandy beach with recently updated facilities.. Many miles of hiking trails with an assortment of difficulty levels. Lots a picnic tables and grills near the lake in tree shaded lots. Bring a tent and stay the night in the campground area.
