This dynamic historical property will capture your imagination as you learn about the five generations of one family who called this place "home."
The Greenwood Center for Living History is the oldest preserved historic house in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region. First built in the early 18th century, between 1732 and 1994 the house was owned by 5 generations, but only two families: the Sabourin family and the Delesderniers/Shepherd family.
Phoebe Nobbs Hyde, the last owner and a passionate lover of history recognized the historical significance of her family home and dreamed that one day Greenwood would become a museum. In 1994, after her death, Phoebe’s will bequeathed Greenwood to the Canadian Heritage of Quebec (CHQ). Since then, Greenwood has become one of the many historic homes under the CHQ’s wing, but the only one that is fully self-functional.
Since Phoebe’s passing, Greenwood’s expansive gardens and grounds, as well as the nearly 300 year old house, are overseen by a group of local volunteers who donate their time and effort to preserve and conserve this truly historic gold mine, and who continue to make the fulfillment of Phoebe’s dream possible.
Come to Hudson and discover for yourself Greenwood’s charm and the fascinating characters that dwell within its unassuming exterior. We can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
