Description

Gresham is a city located in Multnomah County, Oregon, in the United States, immediately east of Portland. Though it began as a settlement in the mid-1800s, it was not officially incorporated as a city until 1905; it was named after Walter Quinton Gresham, the American Civil War general and United States Postmaster General. The city's early economy was sustained largely by farming, and by the mid-20th century the city experienced a population boom, growing from 4,000 residents to over 10,000 between 1960 and 1970. The population was 105,594 at the 2010 census, making Gresham the fourth largest city in Oregon.HistoryThe area now known as Gresham was first settled in 1851 by the brothers Jackson and James Powell, who claimed land under the Donation Land Claim Act of 1850. They were soon joined by other pioneer families, and the area came to be known as Powell's Valley. In 1884, a local merchant petitioned the United States Post Office Department for a post office in his store, and offered to name it after Postmaster General Walter Q. Gresham if his request was granted. At the same time, other members of the community secured a post office called "Campground", another name for the area, referencing the religious camp meeting ground located there and the valley's usefulness as a stop-off for travelers on their way to Portland. Once the Post Office Department realized its mistake, it revoked the Campground post office.

I just want to say how amazing you people are here!!! You couldn’t pay me enough to do your jobs! You’re so very respectful to everyone and you’re very responsive. With all the bs in this town you do an amazing job The 911 call might take a while but you are quick and sooo much appreciated in your responsiveness. Working with your hands tied must be aggravating to no end!!! Thank you thank you thank you for everything you do!!!! And thank you’re families as well!
So rude and unhelpful. I would give them 0 stars for making me cry and stressing me out beyond belief when I was carrying a baby inside of me. They turned me away when I was 8 months pregnant after I had waited in their empty lobby for almost an hour with evidence from a car theft. The receptionist was very polite and friendly but when an officer finally came out from what looked like a very quiet back room she was cold and took the bag from my hands and said “Here, I’ll throw this away for you.” In a heartless voice. I said, “Oh wait, you’re not going to get the fingerprints?” And she said “Nope.” And turned away from me immediately. And I said “oh wow so I waited that whole time for nothing?” And she said “sorry.” In a monotone and disappeared into the lifeless office again. One of the most stressful times of my life as my phone was at about 5% battery and I had no idea how to get home from there, I was new to the area. It was pouring rain, completely dark out, I had driven an hour to get there right after I got off of work, wasted all that gas. I was starving and also had no water or food with me. And it was my boyfriend’s car that had been stolen and he had no way to get to work and had actually had his car stolen while he was at work. I had to go to the sketchy neighborhood on my own after work where the car was dropped off by the thief and stripped of its valuable parts to get their nasty Carl’s Jr. remains from the car since it would have had their greasy fingerprints all over the containers. I used plastic gloves and everything. I went through all this time and effort, basically doing the police’s job for them, for them to turn me away and do nothing to help me, when all I was asking them to do was get fingerprints off a junk food container and convict the criminals, which is supposed to be THEIR JOB. What the hell are we paying them for otherwise??
This review is specifically pointed towards Officer David Joseph of the Gresham Police Dept. We had made a call regarding an identity theft issue that affected our business. Officer Joseph was at our business location within 5-10 minutes of us calling, which is almost unheard of, and was incredibly attentive, kind, and helpful the entire time he was here. I have to say, this gentleman's attitude and work ethic is EXACTLY how the Gresham pd should represent themselves. What an outstanding officer! I would happily work with Officer Joseph in the future, because I know he truly cares and will go out of his way to assist and look after the community. Great job Officer Joseph, I wish the public could see more guys like him because he is a perfect example of a law enforcement officer who truly cares about his community. Thank you for your hard work, it does not go unnoticed!
They are truly Lucky to have a person like Diane working for them everything has been messed up since my car accident and Diane has been a lot of help my experience with the officers has been a very different story to say the least the 5 starts are for Diane not the officers
I stand with our men in uniform Gresham, Fairview, Portland. You all give so much and ask for nothing in return. You protect this community, you keep us safe. You deserve better from this community. You deserve the love and peace you try to give everyone every single day. Some people may not understand order or rules, but without them our world would be in utter chaos. I just hope you know majority of people you protect are with you. We stand with you. Please don't let everything you go through everyday harden your hearts you are appreciated and you are cherished.
The police officer on the motorcycle cycle pulled me over and asking me whats my speed. Then he said I wasn’t using my turn signals, I told him that they are sticking and was using hand signals because the got wet from just moving up from Arizona because of rain. He said I wasn’t. He was on 182nd in division and then came up to my at 162nd and division while I was getting food. I had already ordered and was waiting. He asked me to park once I got my food!! He wasn’t nice at all as I was trying to explain what was going on with my lights!! Didn’t want to hear it!! So you wonder why we have issues in America!! They just don’t care about people and have no compassion what’s so ever!!
Our Gresham Police handled a gun altercation in our neighborhood perfectly. Gunslinger was nasty, loud, & very disrespectful to authorities but police officers were calm, cool, & professional, even kind to the overgrown brat. Nobody physically hurt in what could have been a tragic situation. Perfection! Thank You!
I am struggling with my experience. On Saturday the 21st of October our utility trailer was stolen right out of the storage area of our RV park. Eyewitness's said the thief was a bald "skinny white male" with a salt and pepper goatee, wearing white sunglasses. He was driving a normal contractors type white van with ladders on the top. The utility trailer was found on Monday on 70th and Raymond. It was found because the construction crew building the house called Portland Police Dept. Of course, the trailer was emptied of all valuable items, including a very customized Harley. However, the thieves attempted to spray paint identifying labels on the utility trailer, and left their finger prints in the wet paint. They also bought a head lamp from Bed Bath and Beyond. I know this because the thiefs left the packaging and the receipt in the trailer along with a black plastic trash bag not ours with Sub Way sandwich wrappers. They also left their other garbage in it too. Last night, the Harley was recovered - thanks only to the anonymous tip. The man that had the Harley was John Hughs. The Harley was recovered a few blocks from the utility trailer. He is "storing it for a friend" but wasn't able to give the friends name...... yes, the very middle of Felony Flatt's. However, because the Gresham police officer failed to obtain an inventory of everything that was stolen out of the utility trailer, the offices recovering the Harley didn't have the tools they needed to have probable cause to obtain a search warrant. I have left 3 voice mails for the officer who took the initial report, and 3 voice mails for the officer who recovered the utility trailer to advise of the possible additional evidence to recovery my things and arrest and prosecute the thief. So far this morning, I have spoken to ten people in law enforcement-none of those ten people can tell me who to speak with and have transferred me willy nilly all over the place. Right now-I still have not spoken to a single person who will accept accountability and actually help me. This person still has if he didn't dump the rest of the items last night $15,000.00 worth of our possessions. All of my brand new leathers, rain gear black and deep pink helmets, gloves, 2 pair of women's leather pants, 2 leather Jackets, one of them very recognizable as it has the Indian Motorcycle Chief's head imprinted on the back ,- my boyfriends kut, over 40 years of patches and pins, brass family heirlooms yes, the person who left the items has passed cremated ashes, electronics, and 90% of my clothing, several coats-these items are in / were in Atlas Van Line boxes. The items are cowboy boots, cowboy hats, western saddle tack, and about 70,000 black music CD's. My leathers, the back rest to the Indian, tools, Christmas decorations, a shark vacuum and 2 shark electronic floor cleaners, assorted kitchen appliances, and the list can go on and on and on..... it's been 2 hours since I last tried to speak to a law enforcement official, still no response..... I am grateful Ruby has been recovered, I am thankful we have the utility trailer back, I am shattered that law enforcement has dropped the ball and failed to pursue recovery of the other items.
Just spent an hour trying to find the right number to call to report animal abuse I had been witnessing, and the phone numbers and transferring system there is so messed up that it transferred me to jail records when I pressed the number for "if you need to report an incident to police that happened in Gresham", sent me to Troutdale dept of building and planning when I pressed "zero for an operator" and disconnected me when I pushed for "report child abuse" thought I'd give it a shot to see if it worked haha nope. Tried to file an online report since the police message system kept pushing it while I was on hold haha. Nope. Only options were, "theft, lost or stolen property, or 'add to an existing report,". The owner finished smacking his dog around with its chain it had been tied down w and walked back to his apartment. I spent another 20 minutes trying to call different numbers, just because I felt so badly for this dog and I've see this guy do this more than 3 times now... So my only option now is to wait for their business hours or dial 911 and risk getting in trouble and/or fined for calling flipping 911 for a dog beater? Just...complete incompetence all around. Do better, Gresham...Christ on a cracker.
Got into a verbal altercation tonight with my next door neighbors. Her boyfriend was screaming in my face so hard I felt him spitting. Their brother who is mentally handicapped sits on my front porch and smokes while he's holding a 12 inch blade & a machete on his back. I didn't feel safe so I told their mom to please so something about this, as I have 2 young children. I couldn't even leave my own place in fear of this mental man with knives/mechete right on my front porch. We all got into a verbal argument, 2 people called the police, including my manager of the apartments hoodbrook and honest to GOD the cops came, but drive through the apartments and LEFT without talking to anyone. This is UNACCEPTABLE and I'm just glad I'm moving my family out of this terrible town of Gresham. If I could give ZERO stars, THAT would be too many. Gresham police department, you should be ashamed of yourselves.
