Grove Stadium

Description

BB&T Field is a football field in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The stadium is just west of Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park, home of the Wake Forest baseball team. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons. The stadium opened in 1968 and holds 31,500 people. It is the smallest football stadium, by capacity, in both the ACC and in all Power 5 conferences. In September 2007, Wake Forest University and BB&T, which is headquartered in Winston-Salem, announced a 10-year deal to officially rename the stadium "BB&T Field" starting with the first 2007 home game against Nebraska. The deal is part of a larger development process to secure funds for stadium renovations and upgrades.HistoryThe former stadium name of Groves Field goes back to the original stadium at the original location of Wake Forest (Wake Forest, North Carolina). The old stadium was financed by Henry Groves, and when the school announced the move to Winston-Salem, he and his brother, Earl, decided to make a further contribution to the school to keep their name on any new stadium. After moving to Winston-Salem, many games were played in Bowman Gray Stadium while the project to build a new stadium met with many setbacks. It was not until 1966 that the final fundraising was done, and the stadium opened in September 1968, with the Deacons losing to old rival NC State. The former Groves Stadium became the home football field for Wake Forest High School and is today known as Trentini Stadium. The stadium is part of a larger complex east of the main campus at the corner of Deacon Boulevard and University Parkway, which includes Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park and Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The current stadium consists of two bowed grandstands on either side of the field. The southeast endzone is known as "Deacon Hill," and is used for berm seating during games. The Bridger Field House, originally built in 1968 with the stadium, was demolished in early 1996 and rebuilt during the 1996 football season. It opened midway through the 1997 football season. The structure is located behind the northwest endzone.

We enjoyed seeing Paul McCartney in concert here. It's not as big as other football stadiums so it was a good place to see him. There was a long wait to get parked and checked into the stadium both exacerbated by bad weather before the show but the event and seating were good. I recommend getting to the event way ahead of the start time.
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit for the Paul McCartney concert, in this intimate college stadium. Personally, we stayed up to date on parking and travel information; got there early, waited a very short time in a line to get in, which did look intimidating, and chose to stay calm and take our time for the trip home. Thanks to all the friendly staff encountered along the way, to all those amazing fans of all ages, and especially to Paul McCartney , who blessed us all once again in the great state of North Carolina!!!!! “ And in the end The Love you take Is equal to the Love you make”
The facility is a great venue; however, when I ask staff where this section is, or I ask which gate do I need to enter, I got pretty much the same answer, I'm not from here; never worked at this venue before...not well trained to do their jobs!! Then, they had folks not entering or exiting the same way; absolute mass confusion of folks...beer vendors in the middle corridors, creating even more traffic headaches.... Good thing I got to the parking lot areas by 4:30...that became a mess also. I live 40 miles from the venue; to get out of the facility...finally get out of the parking areas, it took me 2 3/4 hours to get home!!! For the amount of money I spent for this show, McCartney's performance was the only true thing we loved about our evening out!!!
The playing field was beautiful. The stands are steep, but not nose bleed high. We had a good view from our seats. Take a seat cushion though. Crowd could use a little education as to when you should go up and down the aisles during game play.
The seats are not very comfortable for taller individuals. My dad and I struggled to find leg room, otherwise the concert experience was exciting. This particular concert, Paul McCartney was overcrowded and many people were not able to make it because of the terrible traffic and bad planning. That is not fair to people who paid money to see the concert like everyone else. Hopefully the organizers will plan much better for future concerts.
It is small but has an excellent gameday atmosphere!
Paul McCartney Got Back tour was amazing!! Traffic terrible, parking terrible, seating great!! Truist Stadium is a very nice stadium.
We attended the Paul McCartney concert at Truist. Getting in was a nightmare. The workers were kind and helpful. The venue nice and clean. I just don't believe they were prepared for an event of this magnitude.
Always a great experience at Carolina Crown's NightBeat!!!
The homecoming game on Sat. Sept 17, 22, was great. Very close game between WF and Liberty Univ. WF won. The sunset is also amazing to watch.
